4.13.25 imputation

Romans 4:20-25;5:1-5
We can put righteoussness on our account ourself, it has to be imputed.
Romans 4:1-3
Romans 4:3-5
Faith [4:20-21]
What is faith
Merriam Webster
belief and trust in and loyalty to God
firm belief in something for which there is no proo
Hebrews 11:1 “1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1 KJV 1900
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
- Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Examples of Faith
Rom 4:11
He left his homeland
He believed God would make a nation from him and that he’d have many descendants.
Romans 4:17-19
Key idea - He was fully persuaded God could do what he said.
Hebrews 11:6 - But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 KJV 1900
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Because of Abrahams faith in God, God imputed righteousness on his account.
The law in itself cannot save… but faith in the promise of God can.
faith that God would make him the father of many nations (not 1 singular nation)… Faith that a way of reconcilation (salvation) would come through his seed.
Genesis 12:2–3 KJV 1900
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
[2] And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
[3] And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Righteousness [4:22-24]
What is righteousness
righteousness = to right and pleasing to God… to be in right standing with God
Merriam webster = acting in accord with divine or moral law free from guilt or sin
How can we exhibit the same faith and have the same righteousness that Abraham has?
[V23] God did not have this recorded just for Abraham’s sake
Rom 15.4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Romans 15:4 KJV 1900
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
[v24]
We must take God at his word… simply. He has given us more, but when it comes down to it that’s it.
Rom 10:8-9 - But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:8–9 KJV 1900
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Since we have faith, righteousness is there written onto our account. But God doesn’t stop there… He justifies us.
Justification [4:25; 5:1]
 vindicate = justifyconfirmsubstantiate
to provide justification or defense for
Reasons for Justification
Justification comes primarily through faith.
Justification comes through Jesus raising from the dead.
1 Corinthians 15:16–19 (KJV 1900)16For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:  17And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.  18Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.  19If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
1 Corinthians 15:16–19 KJV 1900
16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
1 Cor 15:20 20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 11 The Holy Bible: King James Version, Electronic Edition of the 1900 Authorized Version. (Bellingham, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 2009), 1 Co 15:20.
1 Corinthians 15:20 KJV 1900
20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
Justification comes through the Holy spirit.
Ephesians 1:13–14 (KJV 1900)13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Ephesians 1:13–14 KJV 1900
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Through faith we are made righteous and justified to live within the Grace to which God has called us.
Grace [5:2]
God’s riches at Christ’s expense… its God blessing us with everything we don’t deserve… God goes above and beyond salvation for His saints.
what can we do because of Grace
We can live in the light of His faithfulness
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1
He walks alongside us
Matthew 11:28–30 KJV 1900
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
We have an intercessor
We have a mediator
We have access to the thrown room
we have his blessing.
Hope [5:3-5
Rom 4:11-12 circumcision a seal showing faith.
Romans 4:11–12 KJV 1900
11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: 12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.
conclusion
None of this is possible apart from Christ.
Romans 4:4–5 KJV 1900
4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
