Christ Call to Servant hood

Welcome

Opening prayer

Mathew 21:1-119

Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,

2 saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me.

3 If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.”

4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying,

5 “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you,     humble, and mounted on a donkey,     on a colt,[a] the foal of a beast of burden.’”

6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them.

7 They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them.

8 Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

9 And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”

10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”

11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

Apostels Creed

‌I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

creator of heaven and earth;

I believe in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;*

He descended to the dead

on the third day he rose again

he ascended into heaven,

is seated at the right hand the Father

and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

‌I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic* church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Amen.

Let us pray

Lord as we begin to look at how your scripture today affects our life in service to you. I pray that we listen to how you people failed you in this time and circumcised to the wordly opinions.

Amen

Christ Call To Servant Hood

As we listened to this familiar scripture, we need to look at how this relates to our life as a servant of Jesus. Last week we heard of how Jesus soul was troubled by people claiming to know him but not forming a relationship with him. Even as he prepared to die for our sins. Our scripture today shares with us the symbol of how humble Jesus was. He came ridding on a donkey, a colt that had never been ridden before. as a humble servant, unbeknownst to others he was headed to his persecution. This is a perfect example of servant hood and sacrifice. Jesus knew he was headed into the most cruel and merciless death one could face, but since this was Gods plan he went willingly as a faithful servant. Through this story Jesus epitomized the qualities of a servant leader. How can we learn from this scripture? Jesus as being the messiah comes into Jerusalem on a donkey which would be customary for a person of honor to ride in on. But we were told it was a colt that had never been ridden. This shows the peace that Jesus possessed to be able to calm a young colt. With all this in mind, when Jesus approached the city he stopped and wheeped over the city because he knew the struggles this city would face. Even knowing his fate and the fate of the city Jesus continued on. Despite all the honor and praise the people were bestowing on Jesus by the songs and the waving of palms. Jesus knew these same people would turn on him on Friday to be crucified. so you see God sent Jesus to be a living sacrifice for our sins. And Jesus knew we would turn on him but to fulfill his fathers wish he proceeded as the servant leader he was. So how do we be encouraged in this, how are we to apply this day to our daily lives? First and foremost we are to be like Jesus, So this story depicts we are to follow the word of God regardless of the persecution it causes us in our lives. We are blessed, even though we may have to face some ridicule or some people separating from us, Jesus will never leave us as it is written in scripture, those who serve me my father will honor. But we are to be a servant for God just as Jesus was on palm Sunday. So as we sing the songs today and recite the prayers let us not forget we are to be servants to further Gods kingdom, Just as Christ is called to servant hood.

Amen
