Intro:
How many of you have ever been so excited about something like getting tickets to a concert or a major game that you simply couldn't keep it to yourself? Perhaps you thought, "I have to tell somebody!" right away after seeing something amazing or learning some incredible news.
When something is truly good, we naturally want to share it.
So I want you to think about this: If a concert or a game gets us that excited, how much more should we want to share the greatest news we've ever received—the good news of Jesus?
Evangelism is exactly about that. Essentially, we are sharing the amazing news about Jesus through our words, telling others about who He is, what He has done in our life, and the hope He presents. It's about letting our excitement for Jesus spill into conversations since silence just isn't an option. I want to discuss 3 points 1. What is Evangelism, 2 Why should we evangelize, and 3 How do we Evangelize
Point 1: What is Evangelism?
Evangelism comes from the Greek word "εὐαγγέλιον" (euaggelion), (how to say it) yoo-ang-GHEL-ee-on meaning "good news" or "gospel." It literally means "gospeling"—telling people about Jesus and what He's done in your life.
In Mark 16:15 Jesus told his disciples (CSB) "Then he said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.'
- Explanation: Notice Jesus did not say just pastors or adults should only do this. Evangelism is for you as well. It's about being truthful and open about personally who Jesus is to you.
Let me add one crucial point, though: be sure the Jesus you are sharing is the actual Jesus in the Bible and the way you would know you are sharing the right Jesus is by being in your word. I don't want you to share a distorted version of who He is. Evangelism isn't about sharing opinions or feelings alone. It's about sharing the truth found clearly in God's Word. When we share about Jesus, let's make sure we're showing people the real hope, grace, and truth that can change lives. Now that we talked about What is Evangelism look go to point 2: Why should we Evangelize
Point 2: Why Should I Evangelize?
Imagine yourself walking down the street and you come upon a life-changing secret; you learn something so strong it could heal broken relationships, calm nervous hearts, and entirely change someone's future. Could you keep that sort of thing to yourself?
Here's the truth we actually have something even better than that. The world is filled with brokenness, loneliness, and emptiness, and you carry the answer—the life-changing message of Jesus. Evangelism isn't about obligation. It's about loving people enough to share the best news they'll ever hear. Even if it means they get mad at you because the truth hurts.
Why keep hope hidden when people around us desperately need it?
- Let's take a look at what Romans 10:13-15 (NLT) says "For 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?"
- Explanation: You might be the only Bible some people will ever read. Your words and actions have the power to shape someone's life. Even at your age, you are an influence for someone. They are looking at you saying I want to be like them or I don't want to be like them. Regardless, someone is always looking at you. Remember, you are God's chosen messenger, tasked with spreading the good news. So, live in a way that reflects this profound responsibility.
Now to our final point. Point 3. (go over these really quick)Point 1 What is Evangelism, point 2 Why do we need ot evangelize and point 3 How do we evangelize
Point 3: How Do I Evangelize?
Talking about faith can feel awkward at first, but here's the good news—it's simpler than you think. Evangelism is just sharing your story about Jesus.
This is how I do it.
1. Pray First:
Start things off with a prayer. Ask God for the right moments to talk about Jesus and for the right words when those moments come.
2. Live Out Your Faith:
Show what believing in Jesus looks like through my actions. People often notice your behavior before they hear your words. The Bible says in 1 Peter 3:15-16 (NLT), "Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way."
3. Speak Up:
When you get a chance, talk about why you follow Jesus. Acts 1:8 (NLT) tells us, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere." This means you're equipped to share your story, not just in your school or community, but beyond.
4. Keep It Simple and Respectful:
Talk about your faith in a way that's easy to understand and always with kindness. You don't need to complicate things just share from the heart what Jesus has done for you.
5. Trust the Holy Spirit:
Remember, you're not doing this alone. The Holy Spirit is like your backstage coach, ready to help you out whenever you're unsure.
- Explanation: Sharing Jesus doesn't mean you need to have all the answers. It means being genuine, respectful, and simply telling others why you have hope. Ask God for courage, stay real, and speak from your heart.
Closing:
I will close with this. One person could meet Jesus because you chose to share your story. Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT) says Jesus is always with you as you share Him. Imagine someone looking at you and saying, "You introduced me to Jesus." That's eternal impact. Here's the challenge: live your story, share your hope, and watch God amaze you. Let's go change the world, one conversation at a time!
