“Gethsemane means “olive press.” Located across the Kidron Valley on the western slope of the Mount of Olives, it was Jesus’s regular meeting place with his disciples” Ross H. McLaren, “Mark,” in CSB Study Bible: Notes, ed. Edwin A. Blum and Trevin Wax (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2017), 1588.

“Jesus’ command to keep watch could have two meanings. Perhaps he was telling his disciples to “be on the lookout for those who are coming to arrest me” or “pray for me while I am praying.”Rodney L. Cooper, Mark, vol. 2, Holman New Testament Commentary (Nashville, TN: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 2000), 239.

If there is any other way: we have the answer. No other savior. No other practice. No other God. No other good deed - could save us.

“Abba is Aramaic for “father” and is a term of intimacy.” Ross H. McLaren, “Mark,” in CSB Study Bible: Notes, ed. Edwin A. Blum and Trevin Wax (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2017), 1588.
“In this moment of deep distress, Jesus didn’t feel far from God the Father. He felt so close to the Father that He used the name Abba, a child’s familiar name for daddy.” - Guzik
“The word Abba is the Aramaic word that means “Papa” or “Daddy.” The Jews did not use this word in addressing God because they felt it was disrespectful. But Jesus as the unique Son of God was on the most intimate terms with his Father.” Rodney L. Cooper, Mark, vol. 2, Holman New Testament Commentary (Nashville, TN: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 2000), 240.j
“two of the three disciples nearby had been challenged as to whether they could endure to drink his cup.” Henry E. Turlington, “Mark,” in Matthew–Mark, ed. Clifton J. Allen, Broadman Bible Commentary (Broadman Press, 1969), 387.h
“Jesus had changed Peter’s name from Simon, or “Shifting Sand,” to Peter, or “Rock” (Matthew 16:18). Here, finding him sleeping, Jesus calls him Simon once again.” Jon Courson, Jon Courson’s Application Commentary (Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson, 2003), 281.
“Repeatedly in the Old Testament, the cup is a powerful picture of the wrath and judgment of God (Psalm 75:8, Isaiah 51:17, Jeremiah 25:15). Jesus became, as it were, an enemy of God, who was judged and forced to drink the cup of the Father’s fury so that we would not have to drink from that cup — this was the source of Jesus’ agony.” - Guzik

“The word rise indicates the disciples were still asleep on the ground.” Rodney L. Cooper, Mark, vol. 2, Holman New Testament Commentary (Nashville, TN: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 2000), 240.
“Jesus could rise up because He had already knelt down. He could stand up because He already had bowed down. Jesus found strength for this moment because of the time He had spent in prayer.” Jon Courson, Jon Courson’s Application Commentary (Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson, 2003), 281.
