8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. 10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. 14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. 15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi: 16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation. 1. While on our journey in this life the church will be met with many battles, there are even times when the enemy will come out against the church!

This is what we see happening in our text.

8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. (

This was not the first time they were met with the enemy!
This was one of the first recorded times they were required to fight toe to toe with the enemy!

2. The church can’t back down when the enemy comes to fight!

9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: (

3. We must position ourselves where we are needed when the fight comes!

How do we fight!
i. Protection

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 For which I am an ambassador xin bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (

ii. Proper Posture

9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek:

to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.

10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. (

Position of power
We are not the tail. We are the head.
We are a royal nation a holy priesthood.
Position in prayer
Daniel
Position in praise
King Jehosaphat
Paul & Silas
Position in proclamation
Balaam
Position in preaching
The sword of the Spirit - Jesus fought using the Word of God!
We are not just praying for something to do.
We are not just praising for something to do.
We are not just proclaiming for something to do.
We are not just preaching for something to do.
You praise and you pray and I will preach!
iii. Despite our Position
Whether on the mountain or in the valley.
***So much hinges on this!***

4. So much hinges on our positioning to do battle!

i. There is so much that hinges on the people fighting below.
God has put us in the world to be a light and to be salt. The Spirit works through the church to impact a lost and dying world!
ii. There is so much that hinges on the people fighting above.

The leadership and therefore the preaching of God’s Word!

11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

When I see Moses holding up his hand in the position that he was in I see a resemblance to something that happened to the Israelites not long before this.
Do you remember what happened when then went to the Red Sea?

15 And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: 16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. 17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. 18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

5. Sometimes the fight is not easy and we feel ourselves getting tired during the battle!

That can be anywhere not just up here!
When you have got to be constantly lifting your hands your arms get tired!

11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands were heavy;

6. It’s important that we lift each other up so that we can experience the full victory while fighting!

SHOW WHAT GOD WANTS!

7. Which camp are you in?

You see the Bible only mentions one camps for His people it does not mention 2.
Indeed there is a second camp in the text and that is the camp of the enemy!
But I submit to you tonight that within the confines of church community and congregations there are not only 2 camps but there are sometimes 3 different camps.
Complacent, complaining, controversial, non-compliant camp.

10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it. 12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying, 13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land. 14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them; 15 Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising. 16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go. 17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses. 18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.

Imagine if they said no we won’t fight!
Imagine if they felt justified in not fighting because they had fought!
Some people thinks that they will stand before God one day and give the reasons they give for not being commited or not fighting!
For the Lord is my tower!
Greater is He that is in me!
Times of refreshing!
