Luke 19:28-40

Introduction
Passion Week begins with the Triumphal entry…
What exactly is the passion week?
Passion Week is described in Matthew chapters 21-27; Mark chapters 11-15; Luke chapters 19-23; and John chapters 12-19.
It is referred to as Passion Week because in that time, Jesus Christ truly revealed His passion for us in the suffering He willingly went through on our behalf.
Jesus is the Sovereign King
The Omniscient King
Jesus knew He was going to be crucified…
Luke 9:44 “44 “Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.””
John 3:14 “14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,”
Jesus knew He was going to be resurrected
John 11:25–26 “25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?””
Matthew 16:21 “21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”
Jesus did what He said He was going to do… Which proved that His message was authentic
Deuteronomy 18:22 “22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.”
It was during passion week when Jesus revealed truths about His second coming…
Revelation 19:16 “16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.”
Jesus is the King of Peace
When He was born The angels cried out “Peace on Earth”
Jerusalem, the City of Peace
Riding on a symbol of peace
Laying out robes for a royal procession.
Kings riding a mule represented them coming in peace…
People Praising for Peace
Luke 19:38 “38 saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!””
Jesus is the Long-Awaited King
Zechariah 9:9 “9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
Jesus is not the King they had in mind…
They were looking for a military leader to rescue them from the power of Roman Rule…
They were expecting and excited to be liberated from Roman Rule within a week , when Jesus does not meet their expectations, it was probably these same people who would cry out with the Pharisees and Scribes “crucify Him”
have you ever had an expectation and been disappointed?
B&Js
Jesus came to liberate them from a force much more powerful than the Romans.. from the Power of Satan, from sin and death.
The rocks will cry out! All of Creation has waited for this moment since Genesis 3:15 ….the Seed of the Woman from the tribe of Judah, from the line of King David, who would come and crush the head of the serpent and set up his eternal kingdom… !
Colossians 1:16 “16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.”
Poetic language
Psalm 114:6 “6 O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs?”
Isaiah 55:12 “12 “For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
If the King of Peace has given you peace then a right response must be to give Him praise
How dare we let the rocks sing His praises instead of us…
Invitation
Jesus must be the King of your Heart
The Message of the Mule
The Mule had to be redeemed
The Mule had to be released
The Mule had to be ruled
Ground work… bridle work… foundation and trust…
For Jesus to be the King of your heart you must be redeemed
And when you’re redeemed, you are released from the power of sin and death
but you must then be ruled by another… and this ruler is a King, not just any king… the King
