Has anyone here heard of the sport…Cricket?
Has anyone here heard of the player…Virat Kohli? Does anyone know what Virat Kohli’s record was as a player before he played for India?
When Kohli was 14 years old, he scored 15 runs in his first game.
Kohli went on to score 172 runs that season with the highest average of 34.
In his under 15 team 390 runs in one season with an average of 78.
in the under 17 team Kohli scored 227 runs against Punjab and they won the Vijay Merchant Trophy.
In 2008 Kohli was Called up to play for the National Indian Side. He had done his training, and what he had done in private, had paid off in Public.
He was called for a very specific purpose - To score a lot of runs for the Indian Cricket team. He Knew why he was called, and He knew what he was called to do.
I want to speak to you about your calling. You have been called by god to step into the field. We have to know what our tole is and what is gods.
You have been through the training - What you have done in Private, is about to be taken to the public. You are about to be sent out to further the Kingdom of God.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
You have been Chosen and called by God to further His Kingdom.
I want to share with you three things that you have been called to.
Called to Seek First the Kingdom and Jesus’ Righteousness.
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
It’s important that we understand our role. Kohli knows that his role is to score runs, He is not there to bowl the ball, because he can’t bowl the ball - But he can score the runs.
What is our role here in the text? To SEEK.
What is God’s role in the text? To add and to give you everything that you need to complete His Purpose for you.
God is not saying that you shouldn’t think about these things like food, or drink or clothes, but He is saying that they are not FIRST.
Put Jesus First and Seek His Will and where he guides you, He will provide for you.
We take our eyes off of what we need and we put them on the one that gives us what we need.
Called to Seek First the Kingdom and Jesus’ Righteousness.
Called to be Set apart.
Our text calls you a Holy Nation - It means that you are SET APART. It means that you are DIFFERENT.
Matthew 5 - 13 - 16 Says that you are the Salt and the light of the world.
Salt changes the taste that the food is put on - You are going bring change to the villages that you walk into because you have the Light of Christ within you!
Salt preserves life. You are there to share the good news of eternal life.
You are going to bring Light into the darkness. You have been set apart for His Purposes. Do not be surprised if you act different to those around you in those villages.
Do not be surprised if you look different to those around you in those villages.
Do not be surprised if they also want what you have - Because you have the greatest gift that this planet has ever known -
You have Jesus Christ within you.
The scripture tells us do not hide the light that you have…Let you light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven.
You have been;
Called to Seek First the Kingdom and Jesus’ Righteousness.
Called to be Set apart.
Called to grow into the image of Christ
Kohli practices his batting at least 4 hours a day. He practices in private, so that he can perform in public.
What you do in Private matters. Your dedication to growing in the things of God matters.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
It means don’t be like those that do not know Jeus Christ - Instead get to know Jesus Christ and be Transformed to be more like Him.
It’s not about being good or behaving well. It’s about always seeking to know Jesus, and as you know Jesus He will transform you from the inside out - He will renew your mind and your heart.
Stay close to Jesus.
Called to Seek First the Kingdom and Jesus’ Righteousness.
Called to be Set apart.
Called to grow into the image of Christ
Abraham was the first Christian in His Family when God Called Him.
Abraham was 75 years old. he had a homeland. He had a family and friends. He had things in this world. but God had a calling for Him.
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Abraham is told by God - Go… and once Abraham started to go, then God would show Him.
Let me encourage you that as you leave here today - God is saying the same thing to you today…GO.
and He will make you a great Nation.
He will bless you.
You will be a blessing to those around you.
You have been called by God to spread the Good news of Jesus.
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has Called you.
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will provide for you.
and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ goes before you.
To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We pray for you - Knowing that you have been called, and knowing that Jesus is going to do great things through you.
What are you called to?
Called to Seek First the Kingdom and Jesus’ Righteousness.
Called to be Set apart.
Called to grow into the image of Christ
So Go…to a Land that God will show you…to complete a purpose that He has for you…and further God’s Kingdom here on earth.
AMEN?
**Please stand** - I would like to read this over you.
This is GOD ALMIGHTY SPEAKING IN THIS PASSAGE.
Isaiah 41:9–10
you whom I took from the ends of the earth,
and called from its farthest corners,
saying to you, “You are my servant,
I have chosen you and not cast you off”;
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
For I, the Lord your God,
hold your right hand;
it is I who say to you, “Fear not,
I am the one who helps you.”
