Text: Matthew 27:46
Theme: What do you do when life doesn’t make sense, and God feels silent?
Even Jesus Had Questions
On the cross, Jesus—fully God and fully man—cried out in His most vulnerable moment:
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46)
This wasn’t a loss of faith. It was the honest cry of someone in deep pain.
Jesus, who had healed others and raised the dead, now felt the weight of abandonment. And in that cry, we see both His divinity and humanity.
His divinity fulfilled prophecy.
His humanity expressed pain.
Even Jesus had questions. That means you’re not weak or unspiritual if you do too.
When heaven goes quiet, Jesus shows us how to respond.
1. Jesus Talked Even When God Was Silent
1. Jesus Talked Even When God Was Silent
Jesus didn’t go quiet when God seemed distant. He kept talking.
“My God, my God” was a cry of relationship, not rebellion.
He didn’t fake strength or hide His confusion—He cried out.
Life Application:
You can question God without walking away from Him.
Silence from heaven doesn’t mean absence from heaven.
Prayer is not just for when you feel close—it’s for when you feel lost.
Keep talking. Even when you don’t hear anything back.
Key Thought: God would rather hear your honest pain than your silent resentment.
2. Jesus Spoke the Word
2. Jesus Spoke the Word
Jesus didn’t scream in confusion—He quoted Scripture.
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” is the opening line of Psalm 22.
The Word was in Him so deeply that it came out of Him when He was crushed.
Psalm 22 begins in anguish but ends in victory:
“They will proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn—for He has done it.” (Psalm 22:31)
Life Application:
You can’t quote what you haven’t read.
If you’re filled with frustration, fear, or distractions, that’s what will come out when you’re under pressure.
But if you’re filled with truth, that’s what you’ll reach for when life hurts.
Don’t just follow trends—follow truth. God’s Word steadies you when nothing else can.
Key Thought: When life squeezes you, what’s in you comes out. Let it be the Word.
3. Jesus Felt Forsaken—So You Don’t Have To
3. Jesus Felt Forsaken—So You Don’t Have To
Jesus didn’t die for His sins—He died for yours.
He was forsaken on the cross so you could be accepted forever.
He took our punishment, our silence, our shame.
The separation He felt was the one we deserved.
Life Application:
Your feelings are real, but God’s promise is greater.
When you feel alone, you’re not actually alone.
When you feel like God is gone, His Word says, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
Jesus stepped into isolation so that you could step into relationship.
Key Thought: Because Jesus was forsaken, you never have to be.
Final Reflection: What Do You Do When You Have Questions?
Be honest with God—Jesus was.
Stay rooted in the Word—it will hold you steady.
Talk to God in the silence—faith doesn’t always sound strong; sometimes, it just sounds real.
And when you’ve asked, “Why?” be bold enough to ask, “What now?”
