Set Up
A. For those that are taking notes, you can call this
i. Grace Through the Hyssop Plant
B. If you ask Google, how many plants reside around Israel, your answer will be over 2600 species since its origin
C. One of these plants still used today, is the Hyssop plant
D. The hyssop Plant is classified as an evergreen plant
E. Most of the consumers use it for various dishes
a. Salads
b. Fish and Meats
c. Additives to vegetables
F. But for Israelites, flavor was not its purpose
G. We see that the Hyssop Plant was connected to the blood of Animal Sacrifices
i. Leviticus 14:4 - “...the priest shall order that two live clean birds and some cedar wood, scarlet yarn and hyssop be brought for the person to be cleansed.”
H. All of Isreal knew that in order to receive atonement, the hyssop plant was needed.
I. It was necessary for connecting sacrifice to mercy.
J. And throughout the old testament, we can see it referenced.
K. I’d like to turn our attention to David for a moment
a. David is a popular story in the bible.
b. If we took time to contemplate his story, we can sympathize along side him
c. David’s life was a roller coaster
i. He had high points of victory amongst the battlefields. Defending his home from sinful kingdoms in their attempt to overthrow his anointing. (Could we say that we have also had victories in our own battles?
ii. With the highs, came the low points of his life as he fell into fleshly desires and sins.
1. Even to a point of murder
iii. We have all fallen into this trap before.
1. We to, live a lift full of ups and downs
L. The question we must all ask ourselves today is
a. Do we seek God like David did?
b. 2nd Samuel 13:14 discusses the man that will replace saul
i. This man was David and the verse says “The lord hath sought him a man after his own heart”
M. A man like David shows us that even the anointing can have problems.
a. That’s natural because sin will decay a foundation if not protected.
N. This should not discourage us today, but rather give hope.
a. For Proverbs  24:16 declares “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.”
O. But how long, church, does it take for us to stand up again?
P. A man like David did not wait for his personal conditions to be right to seek God.
a. He didn’t wait for the right secular job to come?
b. Or that perfect altar setting? That one song that Pastor Kyle Sings.
c. And he for sure did not wait for a certain preacher or minister to be present to seek his savior.
Q. As a matter of fact, After he sinned with Bathsheba, David cries out in Psalms 51: 6
a. Purge me with Hyssop and I shall be clean, wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
i. Also crying out “Have mercy upon me O God”
ii. Blot out my transgressions”
R. When David cried out to God and prayed for forgiveness, he mentioned that Hyssop plant.
a. That Hyssop tree referenced in his prayer, signifies Gods grace through his blood. The same blood that can be seen in Egypt
§ Exodus: 12:22 : Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. None of you shall go out of the door of your house until morning.
b. Death was on its way, yet innocent blood overshadowed their lives, with the Grace of God.
S. Davids reliance on repentance is what allowed for Grace to still use his house.
a. 2nd Samuel 7: 16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established forever
b. But because of Davids fervent seeking of the Lord after his sins.
i. Even after David committed his adultery
ii. He murdered a loyal man
iii. The Grace of God still allowed his house to birth the savior.
iv. His innocent blood became the eternal Grace that we do not deserve today
T. As I close, I want to take a second to analyze David one more time.
U. God received his glory through Davids house. A glory and grace that is given to us daily.
V. But that only happened because David humbled himself.
a. David did some self examination.
b. Self examination in the eyes of God will require humility
i. Church, your pride will overshadow the Grace that God is willing to give you
W. In order to have Grace, we must have submission to his will!
a. We have to stop trying to fix all of our problems alone
i. We are taking away Gods Glory
ii. And even worse, we are creating a Altar to yourself
X. We cannot receive Grace in its full capacity without dependency
In closing, I want to encourage someone
A. Do not attempt to make everything right in your life before allowing God to do what he can in an instant.
B. If you only have 10% of it figured out, let God be the remaining 90%.
C. Your pride can be the difference between heaven and hell.
a. Take the chance. Submit yourself to an altar and allow God to restore you.
i. What do you have to lose?
Close with a prayer for Sister April.
