Romans 12:1

Good Morning church
I wanna thank you all for this opportunity
Share what I've studied and learned
and trust me with something this important
If we haven’t got to meet yet
My name is Nick Summerhill
I'm an intern at East Union
Romans 12:1 NKJV
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
I beseech you
Paul is Begging us here to live our lives for the Lord
He uses the word “You” and i think that is for a reason he wants it to be personal he is begging YOU
He is making it personal so you can’t brush it off and think he is telling your neighbor or person sitting next to you… ETC he is telling you you cannot push it on someone else there is no room to do that when Paul makes it personal
By the Mercies of God
It is only by the mercies of God we are even to be considered worthy to be a sacrifice for Him
Do not think about it as a task you have to do
Don’t look at this like it is a punishment because if that is where you are coming from you have already started off wrong.
Look at this as a blessing from God
We are considered to be enough to be a sacrifice
Lambs in the Biblical times that were used for sacrifice were kept away from the other sheep
Paul is saying it is a privilege that we can be used as a living sacrifice
That we can be used in the work and kingdom of Heaven
Because we do not deserve it
What we deserve is death
he takes our sin and uses it for good
No matter how sinful, wrong, deceitful, ETC
Present your body as a living sacrifice
Whats interesting about this is that it isn’t really our body is it?
No it’s not 1 Cor 6 19-20 tells us that our body is a temple of the Lord
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 NKJV
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
The Lord has given us this body so why wouldn’t we want to be a living sacrifice.
We have the nerve to take what God has given us and use it for worldly things
What does it mean to be a living sacrifice?
I have two examples
Be willing to do whatever the Lord wants you to do even if it seems difficult in mark we see a great example of this
Mark 1:16–20 NKJV
And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.
Immediately
they left where they have been their whole life not a second of hesitation
Hired servants
they were doing well in this business they had people who worked for them and they just up and left
Being a living sacrifice also means that you will face difficult times
Primarily persecution
Persecution can mean a bunch of things from physically being persecuted to ment per.
Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice and he was per so if you think you won’t be I’ve got some news for you
Either you aren’t doing your job well of being a sac
or you will have per coming
I know that sounds bad but we should rejoice in per
that means we are doing our job
In acts we see that we should rejoice in being per
Acts 5:40–42 NKJV
And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
The apostles have just been beaten and they leave rejoicing
Because they were counted worthy
And they kept on preaching daily they didn’t let the per keep them from being a living sacrifice
Holy and acceptable to God
When we live our life as a living sacrifice that is what is acceptable to God
Which is your reasonable service
This is what is expected from us as Christians
This is how we should live our life
Recap the sermon real quick
we should live our life
Being willing to go anywhere for the Lord no matter how far or scary it is
being willing to serve the Lord no matter what
Even through per we still remain faithful to the Lord until the end of time
and remember that this body is the Holy Spirits temple that we should live like it is and live
also remember that we were bought with a price and that price was Jesus Christ.
Closing Challenge
This week weather you are on fire for the Lord and being the Best living sac or you feel like you aren’t on fire for the Lord
Pray that the Lord would use you and that the Lord will put someone in your life for you to pray for or pray with
