Intro - Would you like to please the Lord? I mean really please Him.
Power Of Forgiveness
34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
Forgiveness From The Betrayed
Explain Jesus:
Comfort of Heaven,
Dying for another’s sin,
Being refused, rejected, and betrayed by the one He’s dying for.
Events That Took Place Because Jesus Forgave
51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.
Curtain in temple torn - Gods hands rent the separation between Him and his children.
Earth shook -
Rocks were split -
52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised,
53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.
Tombs opened - God’s dominance over death.
Dead were raised - a foretaste of God’s sovereign work during the end times, when “all the dead in Christ shall rise” (1 Thess. 4:16).
Centurion believes
54 When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
The Betrayers Confronted
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
The Solution
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.”
The Result
41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
Many of those saved cried out for Jesus’ crucifixion. The called for His blood.
We are challenged by Jesus before He takes the cross to Matthew 6:14–15 “14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
