Purpose of Education
Glorify God
1 Corinthians 10:31 “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Everything we do is to Glorify God...Education’s aim is to disciple.
Role of parents -
General Revelation - Reproduce, carry on Work
Special Revelation
Deut 4:9 - Teach to Children and Children’s children
Ecclesiastes - Written by Solomon to his children - teaching wisdom.
Deut 6:6-7 Read together.
Responsibility for education falls on the parent: Everybody Homeschools, its just a matter of how much you outsource
Does not mean you have to teach every subject. It does mean we have a responsibility to ensure they are getting those subjects
Primary responsibility lies in teaching law of the Lord, can’t really be outsourced.
ways to integrate teaching God in all subjects - Math for example - it works because of God’s created order. Especially when you get into the worlds of Trig/Calculus which were created for Physics.

*Public Education disclaimer
Dewey - father of modern education, focused on philosophical system of pragmatism (Truth is what works to solve problems). Objective truth was considered an impediment. His big thing was social change.
Early 20th century, push to “evolve society” - Woodrow Wilson (bad, bad man)
That only works if all teachers are onboard with that idea. Past schools weren’t as bad, rural schools aren’t as bad.
it is why we see in California, and more liberal states these rules that cut out parents. Seen as a tool for social change, not as an education system.
There are a myriad of different Education Theories that many charter schools are using. There are other options. Many of them view education as a means to the end of being successful, having lots of money. Plenty that are focused on building well rounded children (Montessori and Charlotte Mason)
Point of understanding the philosophies behind the education system is so we can better know what issues we will need to address in teaching our children the way of the Lord.
How do we respond?
How do we respond?
Be intentional about educating our children in the way of the Lord.
Family Devotionals/Regular discussions throughout life.
Making Church a priority - Kids see what we do.
Showing kids that God is important by living like God is important.
Grace/Forgiveness, talking about sin when it happens
Praying together.
Remembering parents are accountable for teaching.
If we choose to send them to school, we still have a responsibility to be involved in that.
Kids need that. Ex. kids on academic probation at PEP.
Everyone homeschools, the only difference is how much we outsource.
