Hebrews 3:1–6 ESV
Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.

Michael Phelps
Michael Jordan
Michael Jackson
Simone Biles
If I were to ask you chose your favorite hobby and then asked you who is the greatest at that thing. I am sure you could probably talk my ear off about that person. And if anyone ever tries to say someone else is better you take offense to that. Remember that the author of Hebrews is writing to a Jewish community. Does anyone know who the GOAT is in Judaism?
Moses
First person that God used to lead His nation
Spokesperson of God
God used to bring the ten plagues
God used to lead Israel out of Egypt
Parted the Red Sea
Lead them through the wilderness
Ten Commandments
God used to build the temple and Ark
His is foundational
In the Jewish faith, in exception to God, there is none greater than Moses. Yet, listen to what the author says:
Hebrews 3:3 ESV
For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.
The author of Hebrews knows that this is how Jewish people think about Jesus.
Show JESUS vs. Moses slide
WHO IS THE GREATEST?
The author of Hebrews needs us to understand that there are levels to this. It’s not a question of who is the greatest its this:
Show Moses worshiping Jesus
So for all of us, it may not be Moses that we put in competition with Jesus. But what is something that maybe is fighting for that first spot with your savior.
Approval of others
Good Grades
Sports
Artist
What I love is that the author reminds us of our place in all of this
Hebrews 3:5–6 ESV
Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.
We have the opportunity to be like Moses. Yet, Jesus has to stay on the throne of our lives
