Earlier This Morning- OMG, Part 1: The Worship Practices Of A Righteous Man

Introduction- Theology Of African American Worship

The phrase "They Like To Never Quit Praising God" is an expression used to describe a characteristic of African-American preaching and its style of worship, particularly in the African-American church. It reflects a passion and enthusiasm for praising God, often characterized by an exuberant and joyful expressionThe phrase is associated with the concept of "celebration" within African-American preaching, which emphasizes the joy and wonder of God's presence.
The phrase is also used to describe the enthusiastic and joyful way in which many African-Americans express their faith and praise God, often through singing, clapping, dancing, and other forms of celebration.
This expression of faith is often seen as a distinct characteristic of African-American Christian tradition.
Rev. Dr. Frank Thomas has written a book with the same title: They Like To Never Quit Praising God
Where he examines our Celebration in the preaching moment
Melva W. Costen in Chapter 1: A THEOLOGY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN WORSHIP of her book African American Christian Worship: 2nd Edition writes:.
African American Christians gathered and engaged in worship, regardless of denomination, share many things in common.
First and foremost, they gather to offer thanks and praise to God in and through Jesus the Christ, and to be spiritually fed by the Word of God!
In response to God’s call and by God’s grace, communities of faith gather to affirm God’s providence and power.
Under the power of the Holy Spirit, African Americans express their corporate and personal belief that God in Jesus Christ continues to work for good in every aspect of their lives.
There is an ethos,
the characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community, as manifested in its beliefs and aspirations, of beloved community as the “extended family” recalls and celebrates freedom in Christ.
Aware of the mysterious presence of the living Christ, the community is empowered to live the good news in the world.
So that’s the reason

We Like To Never Quit Praising God Because…

That’s what we observe today in our text for this Palm Sunday 2025 at The Baptist Church of All Nations

Psalm 118:26–29 ESV
26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We bless you from the house of the Lord. 27 The Lord is God, and he has made his light to shine upon us. Bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to the horns of the altar! 28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. 29 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!
Psalm 118:26–29 MSG
26 Blessed are you who enter in God’s name— from God’s house we bless you! 27 God is God, he has bathed us in light. Festoon the shrine with garlands, hang colored banners above the altar! 28 You’re my God, and I thank you. O my God, I lift high your praise. 29 Thank God—he’s so good. His love never quits!

9 And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”

Blessed-

BLESSED. The most frequent OT word is bārûḵ. When applied to God it has the sense of praise (

kneel down, i.e., to be or go to a stance in which one is on the knees as contrasted with standing on the feet, with the back straight or bent (

Jesus Christ Is The Light Of The World (Ps. 118:27)

The Law Was a Shadow Of the Good Things To Come- Jesus Is The True Form of the Realities

Hebrews 10:1 ESV
1 For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near.

I Am The Light Of The World

John 8:12 ESV
12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
I Was Blind, Now I See
John 9:25 ESV
He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”
Statement of Spiritual Revelation & Personal Transformation
John 3:1–3 ESV
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Jesus Call You Out Of Darkness Into His Marvelous Light

1 Peter 2:9–10 ESV
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Psalm 118:23 ESV
23 This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

Bind The Festal Sacrifice With Cords

festal-

Psalms 73–150: An Introduction and Commentary A Victor’s Welcome (118:19–27)

The word for festal procession (see Additional note on 27, below) points to its being one of the three annual pilgrim feasts, Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles), and we can glimpse two companies at this point: one already in the temple court, greeting another which is arriving with the king. Blessed be he who enters is an individual welcome, but We bless you is addressed to the many who are with him.

Feast of Weeks (Exodus 34:22): Also referred to as the Feast of Harvest.
Feast of Harvest (Exodus 23:16): Celebrated the first fruits of the wheat harvest.
Feast of Firstfruits (Leviticus 23:15-16): Marked by the offering of a sheaf of grain to the Lord.
Fifty Days After Passover: Calculated from the day of the firstfruits offering (Leviticus 23:15-16).

Cords-

thick foliage, i.e., leafy stem of a plant or tree, with a focus on the thickness or intertwining of the branch configuration

Branches is a rare meaning of a quite common word for ‘cords’ (e.g. Ps. 2:3; Judg. 15:13; etc.); and since ‘Bind the sacrifice with cords’ makes immediate sense,
‘Bring the sacrifice, bound, to the horns of the altar’ involves the fewest difficulties.
Derek Kidner, Psalms 73–150: An Introduction and Commentary, vol. 16 of Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries (Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 1975), 451.

Horns of the Altar

Psalms 73–150: An Introduction and Commentary A Victor’s Welcome (118:19–27)

the horns of the altar became the arms of the cross, and the ‘festival’ itself (see Additional note, below, on festal procession) found fulfilment in ‘Christ our passover’ (

Christ Is Our Passover Lamb

1 Corinthians 5:7 ESV
7 Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

John the Baptist Said

John 1:29 ESV
29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Psalm 118:28–29 ESV
28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. 29 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

2 Timothy 2:10–13 ESV
10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.

“One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism”

Walk In The Beautiful Light

Jesus is a light of the world Come on choir
Walk in the light (walk in the light), beautiful light (well, it's a beautiful light) Come where the dewdrops (come where the dewdrops) of mercy shine (bright of mercy shine bright, oh, Lord) Shine all around (shine all around) us by day and by night (by day by night) Jesus (Lord Jesus) is the light of the world (I wonder do you know this even mean? Yeah, yeah)
He is shining (yes, He is shining) He is shining (oh, yes, He is shining) He is shining (oh, Lord) by day and night (oh, Lord)
John 1:1–4 ESV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
John 1:5 ESV
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:9 ESV
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
John 1:10–11 ESV
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.
John 1:12–13 ESV
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:14 ESV
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Father Is Seeking Worshipers In Spirit & Truth

John 4:20–26 ESV
20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”

By The Mercies of God…

Romans 12:1–2 ESV
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Blessed Be The God & Father of Our LORD Jesus Christ

Ephesians 1:3–5 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,

Continually Offer Up A Sacrifice Of Praise To God

Hebrews 13:15 ESV
15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.

Close- When Jesus Is Lifted Up

John 12:32–36 ESV
32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” 33 He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die. 34 So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” 35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them.
