He Has Risen!
He Has Risen!
Friday just before sunset Jesus was put into the tomb
The giant wheel looking stone was rolled into place covering the entrance
a Roman seal was placed on the stone
Roman guards were stationed to guard the place where My saviour lays so His disciples wont steal the body
Jesus had told the Jews that He would be like Jonah. that after 3 days He would rise from the dead
But on that Sunday morning the stone was rolled away by angels from Heaven to show the world that He was indeed not among the dead
but through the power of God Jesus was raised from the dead
We are looking today at the power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us today
Matt 28 1-9.
Brothers
Brothers
V 10 go to My Brothers
The power of the resurrection makes us brethren to Jesus
now Jesus is speaking of His apostles
and speaking of all believers not any unbelievers
We have now one Father in the same family
not that we deserve to be a brother of our Saviour
the wages of sin is death
but the grace of God causes us to become children of His
Jesus redeemed us with His blood
so that the Holy Spirit can Regenerate us and give us the faith to believe
So, Being Brother of Jesus Gives us an inheritance
unlike other inheritances this one will not decrease as it is given out
God’s grace will be new to us every day
our inheritance is eternal
lets look at
for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die, but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the practices of the body, you will live.
For as many as are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry out, “Abba! Father!”
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,
and if children, also heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
In John 20 17 it says
Jesus said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’”
Martin Luther says it this way
This is one of the great and comforting passages upon which we can venture, and of which we dare boast. As if Christ had said: Go hence, Mary, and say to my disciples who have deserted me on the field of battle, and who have well merited punishment and eternal condemnation, that my resurrection has taken place for their benefit; that is, by my resurrection I have brought it to pass that my Father is their Father, and my God is their God.
the power of the resurrection gives us
Power Over Sin
Power Over Sin
Without the resurrection we would not have our sins forgiven
we would still be on our way to hell
the Father was pleased to incarcerate His Son in the prison of the grave
But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our peace fell upon Him, And by His wounds we are healed.
knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
We have been crucified with Jesus. the debt of sin that we had is now paid for
the wages of sin is death and we recieved those wages when we died with Christ
so to continue in Romans
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,
knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.
For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
so now the power of the resurrection has given us mastery over sin. sin now has no more rule over us
Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Consider a caterpillar that transforms into a butterfly. Before the transformation, it crawls on the ground, limited by its nature. In its chrysalis, it undergoes a profound change that mirrors our own spiritual resurrection. When we accept Christ, the power of the resurrection allows us to leave our old self behind, much like the caterpillar leaves its old life and emerges as something entirely new. This metamorphosis into a new creation signifies our victory over sin, pushing us into a higher purpose and freedom.
right now we are experiencing the spiritual part of the resurrection but when Jesus returns our bodies will be glorified
we will experience the bodily resurrection and our power over sin will be complete
we will not be able to sin ever again
another way we experience the power we see as Paul prayed that we would know
Our Inheritance
Our Inheritance
Ephesians 1 16-23
V 16-17
this prayer is for everyone who is saved
Paul prays that we understand how rich we are because of the resurrection
V 18
our prayer should be for the Holy Spirit to open our eyes of the full knowledge of Christ
but that come with studying and reading
V 19
V 20
the same power that raised Christ from the dead. and brought Him back to Heaven is available to us through Jesus
We a co inheritors with Jesus
Spiritual now. physically at the resurrection
V 21-23
Jesus in authority over all rulers powers and authorities/ satan and demons
through Jesus we also have this authority
Jesus gave his body for us
we are now apart of His body
Jesus is the head
And as the head of the Body He has given us the Great commission
But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated.
And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to keep all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
we are able to do this commission because of the resurrection power that we have in Christ
