Re-cap David has killed Goliath and King Saul asked to see David
Saul gave David his armor to fight in a but what happened?(it wasnt made for David and it was meant for him to wear”
What armor did David have that couldn’t be seen? He was clothed in something much more powerful than any physical metal armor or chain mail or helment could provide. He was clothed in the armor of God.
David had confidence in God because he had seen God give him victory as a shepherd boy over lions and bears.
David didn’t forget what God had done for him in the past.
READ 1 Samuel 18
Verse 1-4, So Jonathan was the son of Saul and what this means is that Jonathan and David were very similar in the sense that both had a relationship with God. You can read in 1 Samuel 14 where Jonathan initiated a one man war against the Philistines. Interesting how God puts Jonathan in Davids life and gives him a friend and Jonathan begins to serve David and puts a robe on him.
Since the garden God clothes his people and gives garments to his people as a covering, and Jesus was our covering into salvation.
Jonathan and David had the same heart.
Its interesting to think of Jonathan as the son of Saul he would have been the air for the thrown and he instead of angry about David he gives him his robe.
Verse 5-9, David served Saul wisely and he continues to do the work thats in front of him and God blesses him for it. David never tried to become king to quick or undermine Saul he followed all of his orders and served him faithfully.
David quickly became popular among the people and the leaders whom were Saul’s servants. Though David never sought out popularity or favor with the people but because of his relationship with God and because he was a man after Gods on heart.
One part of this story I never realized to be so profound is that David sort of kept his shepherd heart in the sense that he was to serve and care for those sheep he would soon care for Gods people and look after them. God wanted to teach David about shepherding before he ever became a King.
King Saul grew angry and jealous partly because he didn’t have a relationship with the Lord and he got his affirmation from the praise of man.
IF we remember Samuel had given a word to Samuel that what? “The Lord has rejected you from being King over Israel”
