This day goes against much of what our culture celebrates. Power. Strength. Possessions. Individualism. Personal Freedom.
We need Maundy Thursday in the Church.
If we are not careful we can easily slip into the pattern of our world. We need it because I believe Maundy Thursday reminds us character matters.
Jesus is our example.
We must never forget this point. Paul in this letter to the Philippian church reminds them again and again, Christ is what matters. Whatever you do conduct yourself in a way which is worthy of the Gospel of Jesus.
Our thinking will always show.
Actions reveal what we really think and believe.
Jesus being God did not take advantage of his identity, status, or power.
The one person who could have chose not to. Is that true of us?
Humility and character matters..
Jesus’ death was not a “one off” action but the consummation of a life lived in gracious sacrifice fort hose He created. The character of God is gracious sacrificial love done in humility.
God gracious and freely gives.
Verses 9-11 do not mean because of Jesus act God had to give him the name above all names. No, it is a reminder that God can do what He wants to do and He will be gracious.
