Scripture

Luke 23:44–46 NKJV
44 Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. 46 And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last.
Psalm 31:5 NKJV
5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.

Introduction:

We are in the final moments of the darkest time. But in that same moment we are in a most powerful time. For it in this moment that we realize that Jesus has accomplished his mission. The veil of the temple has been torn in two. Once again mankind will have access to the Father for the for the forgiveness of sins.
But this accomplishment has not come without great price. Jesus is nearing death. It is a dark time, spiritually, physically and metaphorically.
After already crying once with a loud voice in the midst of agony and the feeling of abandonment, Jesus cries aloud again. This cry denotes an intentional release of HIS spirit.
CONNECT: Can you imagine being in the final seconds of life realizing that after all the breaths you have taken since you left you mother’s womb, Your last was soon to follow.
You now have to reflect on how you spent those breaths. Even though His body is shutting down. He does not go out weak and feebly. We see the deliberate and intentional nature of Christ. That even though Rome made the cross, and The Pharisees manufactured the crime, He is still in control.
We hear him say in:
John 10:17–18 NKJV
17 “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”

Point Transition

We see know that even on the Cross Jesus is teaching us.

I. Trust

The word means to set beside. To place in the care of another. When I get ready to go into another room I may leave a valuable with someone I trust
Strong's Lexicon paratithémi: To place beside, to set before, to entrust, to commit
Original Word: παρατίθημι Part of Speech: Verb Transliteration: paratithémi Pronunciation: pah-rah-TEE-thay-mee Phonetic Spelling: (par-at-ith'-ay-mee) Definition: To place beside, to set before, to entrust, to commit Meaning: (a) I set (especially a meal) before, serve, (b) act. and mid: I deposit with, entrust to, (c) I bring forward, quote as evidence.

Hermeneutical bridge:

I’ll Trust You in the middle of it all

Even in the middle of suffering I trust you.
Even when darkness is on the way I trust you

II. Surrender

Power Principle: Trust produces surrender.

I will not surrender to someone I do not trust.

He committed His Spirit. I committ my life

III. I’m in Your hands because I’m in your will

Jesus knew he was in the will of the Father. In the garden he had prayed, “not my will but thou will be done”.

Hermeneutical Bridge:

I’m winning because I’m in your will!

Even though it’s dark
Even thou it may appear to others that I have lost, I’m winning because I’m in your will!

IV. Conclusion:

The safest place in the whole wide world is in the will of God. Can we surrender to God today? If you don’t know Him, now is the time! If you have not trusted Him now is the time!
