We all need to ask ourselves this question:
Who is Jesus?
How we answer this question determines two things.
First, it determines where we will spend eternity.
Second, it determines our purpose in this life.
So, who is Jesus to you?
1 Peter 1:3 tells us who Jesus is and assures us of God’s work in us through Jesus.
1 Peter 1:3 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Church, Jesus is Lord!
He is risen! He is risen indeed!
Let us then cry out, “Blessed be the name of the Lord,” for he has caused us to be born again to a living hope.
Who caused our salvation?
God the Father caused our salvation through the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
Jesus is our living hope.
He is risen! He is risen indeed!
1 Peter 1:4.
1 Peter 1:4 ESV
4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
We who confess Jesus as Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead will be resurrected to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading.
He is our living hope.
Praise Jesus! He is risen! He is risen indeed!
1 Peter 1:5.
1 Peter 1:5 ESV
5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
This salvation, a free gift to all who believe, is being kept in heaven, guarded by God through faith, to be revealed at Jesus’ Second Coming.
Praise Yahweh for his faithfulness shown in Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection, making Jesus our living hope.
He is risen! He is risen indeed!
1 Peter 1:6-7.
1 Peter 1:6–7 ESV
6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
We have great joy in Jesus, our living hope, for his birth, death, and resurrection have wrought our salvation.
In this, we find purpose, knowing that the various trials are testing the genuineness of our faith, which will bring glory and honor to God at the revelation of Jesus the Christ.
The purpose of this life is to bring glory and honor to God through the expression of our faith in Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection.
Jesus is our living hope.
He is risen! He is risen indeed!
1 Peter 1:8-9.
1 Peter 1:8–9 ESV
8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
None of us has seen Jesus, yet we love him.
None of us has seen Jesus, yet we believe in him.
For his is our living hope.
For by grace through faith we are saved, and that not of ourselves, it is a gift of God (Ephesians 2:8).
Jesus, then, fills our hearts with rejoicing that is inexpressible, filled with the glory of God, for it is his work in us through Jesus, our living hope.
Go, Church, rejoicing in knowing Jesus is our living hope.
For he is risen! He is risen indeed!
