Israel, Government, and the King
Israel, Government, and the King
Those who had arrested Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had convened.
ISRAEL REJECTED THE TRUTH THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD OF ALL
Caiaphas was the High Priest of Israel at this time. He, along with the scribes and elders, represent the nation of Israel. Everything funnels through their courts. They make the decisions about what is true and what is not, what is of God, and what is not.
In this passage you heard how they broke the 9th commandment, “You shall not give false testimony.”
Not only did they give false testimony, none of it was consistent.
Jesus’ reply to all the Jewish court about Him being the Son of God was:
“I AM.” Jesus used the same language of God when He spoke to Moses. When we look at the Greek Septuagint, the Greek version of the Old Testament, you will not it is the same two Greek words, ἐγώ εύμι.
Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the governor’s headquarters. It was early morning. They did not enter the headquarters themselves; otherwise they would be defiled and unable to eat the Passover.
THE GOVERNMENT REJECTED THE THE TRUTH THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD OF ALL
There has never been a government to fully embody the Kingdom of God perspective. Mankind has been more consumed with their identity as a nationalist of their prospective country or nation.
Jesus said, “My Kingdom is not of this world.” If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, than you are an ambassador to His Kingdom and His Kingdom alone. No other allegiance should befall upon you, expect allegiance to our true King.
As we noted earlier, Israel rejected their King. David and only a handful of other Kings fully acknowledged God as their true King. Since then, no other nation has really, fully, embodied what it means to give their complete allegiance to Jesus Christ.
Rome, under Constantine and Emperor Theodosius I, had a spell of leading their respective nation under the banner of Christ in the 4th Century.
England and Scotland, in the 16th and 17th century, for a time saw reform under the banner of Jesus Christ, for a time.
Since then, there has never been a nation or government to fully acknowledge Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, their true King. One that leads by the Word of God and follows Him alone.
Why? Because most of mankind has:
MANKIND HAS REJECTED THE TRUTH THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD OF ALL
Pilate then told the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no grounds for charging this man.”
THE KING REJECTED THE TRUTH THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD OF ALL
Jesus was send to King Herod, the King of the Israel region at the time.
Luke is the only one to record this account, of the four gospels. Each of the Gospel account are based on eye-witness accounts. When Jesus was sent to King Herod, it is most likely that the other Gospel writers were unable to witness the conversation and judgement of Jesus Christ.
Luke, being an investigative reporter and accurately handling his report of the truth, would have spoken to eye-witnesses as to what transpired between Jesus and King Herod.
King Herod and his soldiers rejected Jesus Christ as Lord. They “treated Him with contempt and mocked Him.
Peter and John spoke to their companions about Jerusalem and the people in it, saying,
“For truly in this city there were gathered together against Your holy servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,
Everyone rejects Jesus Christ. And, it is only those whom He has called and whom have heard the truth and placed their faith and trust in Him, who can truly say, they belong to Him.
