Church Sunday Morning as come
Praise the Lord Sunday Morning has come
We have gone through Maundy Thursday where we learned about the Lords Supper
We learned how it is more than just grape juice and bread that it represents what Jesus did on the cross and in the tomb for you and I
Because of His Great love for us
Then on Good Friday we we look at the beating and death of Jesus
Church that is something we can no longer reading over without understanding more of what the beating entailed
We know that Jesus willingly went to the cross to pay for your debt of sin and my debt of sin because Scripture said He gave up His spirit
And then Saturday we talked about the fear and unknown of Jesus being dead in the grave and how the Word of God gives us comfort and peace during those difficult unknown moments
And then Church Sunday Morning Comes
In the midst of all the good and horrible things that happened to bring about salvation we know that Sunday Morning is coming
we need to know and understand that Sunday Morning came because of His Great and Might love for us!!!
So the morning came and with the morning came the hope and promises of God Himself
1 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,
While it was still very early they were coming to the Tomb to finish preparing the body of Jesus for final burial
They came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away
Much like last night you can maybe start to feel that anxiety of the unknown start to build up
Remember the Jewish leaders had feared someone would come and steal the body of Jesus away to make it appear that He had risen because that is what He said He would do
1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?”
Before they had got to the Tomb Mark tells us of part of the conversation on the way to the tomb
They had fully expect the stone to still be there and the guards to still be there
They were going to have to figure out a way to get the stone moved because they still believed Jesus was dead
They were going to the tomb to mourn their friend and teacher
They were going to pay their respects to prepare the Body as friends
But church
He was not there
4 Looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, although it was extremely large. 5 Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed. 6 And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.
Ok lets just for a minute put ourselves in their shows
You are going to the tomb of a dear dear friend of yours who was just crucified 3 days earlier
You are going to and bring spices to care for the body to finish the prep for final burial
You have the conversation about how in the world we are going to move this large stone
And as you come either around the corner or just over this small hill you see that the stone is moved
It is not in the place you last saw it
And you decide to go in and look around
I don’t know church if I would have had the guts to run up and look in the tomb
All the while we should remind ourselves this is exactly what Jesus would happen
So Sunday Morning is coming should remind us that the Hope and the Promises fulfilled by God are coming and that His mercies are new each morning
They go inside the tomb and find a young man sitting where Jesus was laid
He tells them exactly what Jesus had told them many times before
Don’t be surprise the guy you are looking for He is not here He has risen
See for yourself this is where he was laid
Church the tomb was opened and the body was not there so that we could go into the tomb and look for ourselves
We can go in and see that the body of Jesus is no longer there
Just 3 days earlier Jesus cried 3 words that would forever change the course of History and Mankind
Those 3 words would forever end the battle of sin if you would only accept that free gift from Jesus
When Jesus cried “IT IS FINISHED” the struggle with sin was over
Because of His death we are set free from sin
6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin.
Because of His death we are able to accept that free gift of Jesus’ death on the cross
We can be free from sin
You and I no longer have to be slaves to sin
We no longer have to fight a winless fight with sin
Jesus defeated sin with His death
If you would only accept that free gift of Jesus’s death on the cross in your place
Remember He took your place on the cross
You can be set free from the chains of sin
But what the angel at the tomb said 3 little words that would forever build off the change that Jesus started
6 And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.
Those 3 little words that we often over look
I mean we sure do like to celebrate what those 3 little words mean but church
Just like when Jesus said it is finished meant we are free from sin
Those 3 little words “HE IS RISEN”
Those mean that He is no longer bound by the grave
That He defeated death
Something no one else has ever been able to do on their own
Church for us it means that with the empty tomb and Christ’s resurrection we can Have life and have it abundantly
See What we celebrate is Sunday Morning
The fact that Jesus is now alive
And because of His own life we can now have life
Remember the angle showed them He is not here look for yourselves
They are told to go and tell Peter and the disciples
Want to talk about grace being on display
2 thoughts come to mind about why they are told to go and tell Peter
Peter probably helped Mark write the gospel
It could have been to for sure go and tell Peter because even though He denied me 3 times 3 nights ago
I am alive and I forgive me
At the tomb is where you and I find forgiveness of sin
Peter needed to know that there is forgiveness
Maybe you are here this morning and you are wrestling with what you think is the unforgivable
Please hear me this morning
the Empty tomb means there is forgiveness for you this morning
Because of the empty tomb Jesus is alive and is waiting for you to run to Him
I mean this the question this morning
That is why we gather on Resurrection Sunday
To celebrate the the fact church that He is risen
So then we must ask will you do you want to would you run to Jesus this morning
Then we also see the ladies are told to go and tell people
Might I suggest that we are to do the same
See the Gospel Message
The Death and Resurrection should have such an impact on our lives that we start to live our lives different
This is there should be action to our faith
The action is to tell people about the death and resurrection of Christ
The action is to tell people about the love Jesus has for them
The action is to live our lives in such a way that Christ is glorified and people see Jesus and not us
Jesus is alive and we are to go and tell people
Him being alive is more than a dead person coming back to life but it means that forever death has been defeated
That we can live as Christ is alive
8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.
If we have died with Christ then surely will we rise with Him
The fact that Christ raised from the dead means that we can now live
That we are not just waiting to die and that is the end of it
But now we can have life
You have heard the saying
Live once died twice
Live twice die once
Means live once and never accept Christ then you will die a physical death and a spiritual death
But because of Christ’s empty tomb
Because Christ defeated death
We can live twice and die once
We can live a physical life
And we can accept the free gift of Jesus’ death and resurrection by repenting of our sin and trust Jesus
And we can live a spiritual life
Then we will only die once a physical death but live eternity in Heaven with Jesus
Paul has this to say about the resurrection
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
This is what happens in salvation
this is what happens when you repent of your sin and trust in Jesus
See Sin is the bad stuff you do in your life
It is what seperates you from God
There is a division between you and God because of your Sin
But
Without that word there would always be division between you and God because of Sin
But God love you and I enough and so very very much that He sent Jesus to pay for your debt of sin
Jesus went willingly because He wanted to be obedient to God the Father
To pay for you debt of sin Jesus had to die
See sin always leads to death
And Jesus always leads to life
Jesus says if you accept that free gift of payment for you sin
I will give you life
Paul says that life is given to our dead mortal Bodies
Church that is why we celebrate so much during the Easter Season
The Resurrection is so vital to us having life and having it abundantly
And church the Resurrection isn’t the end of salvation
Rather it is the beginning of something beautiful
See the resurrection would go on to change the entire world
6 words
IT IS FINISHED
and
HE IS RISEN
has forever changed the world
The resurrection should perpell us to action in our daily lives
And church we are not doing it alone
26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
Jesus walked on the earth for 40 days after He rose from the Grave
over 500 witnesses saw Him ascend into Heaven
And Jesus promised to send a Helper we know as the Holy Spirit to help as we walk with Him
Jesus promised that he would rise from the grave 3 days later
Why would we question the coming of the Holy Spirit to help give us guidance and wisdom as we do this thing called life
Church when you repent of your sin and trust Jesus you are saved
The same spirit that raised Jesus from the grave now lives inside you
That same spirit gives us wisdom and guidance as we live in a fallen world
So church as we come to a close this morning
Maybe you are here for the first time and heard the Gospel Message clearly this morning
You understand that your sin has separated you from Christ
This morning you can cross that divide through Jesus by repenting of sin and trusting Jesus
If you want to do that would you come forward and talk with someone
Or maybe you have a relationship with Jesus and this morning you want to just spend sometime in prayer at the alter
Or maybe you want to join this church
Would you respond obediently
The alter is open
