Matthew 28:1–10 CSB
After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards were so shaken by fear of him that they became like dead men. The angel told the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there.’ Listen, I have told you.” So, departing quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to tell his disciples the news. Just then Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” They came up, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus told them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.”

I. Come & Believe That Jesus Is Alive

Matthew 28:6 “He is not here. For he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”
The women came looking for Jesus, and the angel's invitation to them was: “Come and see.”
This phrase is powerful. “Come” is the same word Jesus used when He called His disciples to follow Him. “See” is a call to believe, to marvel at what is true and clear, and to change your mind based on the evidence presented. The angel was calling them to come close, examine the empty tomb, and believe in what Jesus had said all along, that He would rise from the dead (Matthew 16:21; 17:22–23; 20:18–19).
The Angel’s Call to the Women is Christ’s Call to All Sinners: Come & Believe That Jesus Is Alive!

Who is Jesus?

Matthew 16:16 “Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.””
He’s not just a shadow of a Savior, not a prophet among many. He is the Messiah, the long-expected Deliverer, the Anointed One. The obedient and beloved Son of God. The Savior who came into the world to die in the place of sinners, to rescue them from the power of sin and to offer them a new relationship with God, like children and their father.
This Messiah is perfectsinless, and the only one who could fully atone for the sin of mankind. he is fully God, and fully Man, and only his blood could accomplish the mission of God.

The Mission of the Messiah:

“To transform sinners into saints who glorify God.”
Luke 4:18–19 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
In Isaiah 61, this messiah is sent to declare both the day of the Lord’s Favor, but also the day of God’s vengeance. The good news is that in first coming of Christ, he declared that he was here to declare God’s Favor.
As in John 3:16-17 he did not come to condemn the world, for the world was already condemned, but he came to save the world, to display God’s love for the world through his sacrifice on the cross.
Ultimately, He came to bring true and lasting salvationfreedomredemptioncomfort, and eternal life.

The Message of the Messiah:

Matthew 4:17 “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near.””
The angel’s message to the women is Jesus’ call to us all: Repent and Follow Him.
To repent means to turn from sin—to stop believing that we can save ourselves, or that we are headed the right way without Him. True Repentance is incomplete without also following someone else…
So Who do we follow?
We Follow Jesus, the Good News. We partake of the Only Bread of Life that satisfies the hungry, and the Only Living Water that quenches the thirsty, We look to the Only Light that beckons sinners out of the darkness, We follow the Only Good Shepherd who leads men and women away from destruction. We follow the Only Way, Truth, and Life that leads to and eternal relationship with God.
We Follow the Only Resurrection, which is the path out of the grave and into eternity.
We Follow the One who died to sin, but If He didn’t rise to new life—no one will.
Romans 6:10–11 “For the death he died, he died to sin once for all time; but the life he lives, he lives to God. So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.”
When Jesus died, sin died. He fully defeated it on the cross. When He rose, He became the Victor, triumphing over sin, death, and Satan.
He is the King of kings and Lord of lords, and His resurrection proved that the Father had accepted His sacrifice.
To follow Jesus in death is to be dead to sin, To follow Him in resurrection is to walk in new and eternal life.
We can either stay in the grave or follow Him out!
And so the question is if we follow Him—Where?

II. Go & Tell Everyone That Jesus Is Alive

Matthew 28:7 “Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there.’ Listen, I have told you.””
Once the women had seen and believed, they were sent.
The angel tells them: “Go & Tell!”
In light of what they had just witnessed—and come to believe—they were now entrusted with a message: Jesus is Alive!
This wasn’t just for them. This is our mission too. We don’t just follow Him quietly. We announce Him boldly.
And Jesus Himself gives this same commission to all believers:
Matthew 28:18–20 “Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
We are called to tell everyone about Jesus.
It is not a secondary calling.
We must make this a priority in our lives, because Jesus made it priority in his life.
But here is the great comfort for us, just as it was for the women.
The Angel said:he is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there”
They left that place and they went to find Jesus, and they surely did find Him!
Appearing to them he greeted them, not with fear or judgement, but with a tenderness and Joy: “Greetings”
It was a message filled with comfort , a call to joy, knowing that their Friend and Savior was alive!
And In that moment the presence of Jesus comforted them.
As they drew near to him, their hearts found strength.
And in their joy, they fell at his feet and worshiped him, recognizing who he truly was: the Messiah.
This same comfort is ours today!
The mission he gives us is NOT one we face alone.
Matthew 28:20 And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
To follow Jesus is to draw near to Jesus.
It’s not to go out on our own. If he sends us, he is also with us.
You do not carry this message in your strength, But in His Presence.
In the famous prayer of St. Patrick:
“Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.”

Conclusion:

Jesus is alive.
He calls you to Come and Believe—to see the empty tomb, trust His Word, and follow Him into new life. And then He sends you to Go and Tell—to proclaim the victory of the Risen King, alongside him, never alone.
So here’s the invitation and the challenge: Come. Believe. Go. Tell. Never Alone.
