2 Peter 1:16–21 “For we did not make known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ by following ingeniously concocted myths, but by being eyewitnesses of that one’s majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when a voice such as this was brought to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And we ourselves heard this voice brought from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain, and we possess as more reliable the prophetic word, to which you do well if you pay attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, recognizing this above all, that every prophecy of scripture does not come about from one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”
Day by day, the routine of life continues. If God gives you life, then you wake up in the morning and the sun rises in the east, it warms up the day, it sits high in the noon sky and then marks the end of the day by setting in the west.
Peter writes to us about letting the morning star rise in our hearts. So, we must ask ourselves, whom do we allow to have authority in our lives?
In the ancient world, for the Romans and Greeks, the morning star was the planet Venus. IN ancient Babylon the title was given to the king of Babylon. You can see it before the sun rises in the east also, yet it is not the real morning star. Someone also wanted to have this title, Isaiah 14:12 “How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of dawn! You are cut down to the ground, conqueror of nations!”
Morning stars - Job 38:7 “when the morning stars were singing together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”
Jesus is the morning star - Revelation 22:16 ““I, Jesus, sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.””
He will give us the morning star Revelation 2:18–28 ““And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: “This is what the Son of God says, the one who has his eyes like a fiery flame and his feet like fine bronze: ‘I know your works, and your love, and faith, and service, and patient endurance—and your last works are greater than the first. But I have against you that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, the one who calls herself a prophetess, and teaches and deceives my slaves to commit sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols. And I have given her time in order to repent, and she did not want to repent from her sexual immorality. Behold, I am throwing her into a sickbed and those who committed adultery with her into great affliction, unless they repent from her deeds. And I will kill her children with deadly disease, and all the churches will know that I am the one who searches minds and hearts, and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds. But I say to you, to the rest who are in Thyatira, all those who do not…”
Let the true worshippers arise - Venus, a false light, not the true light. We live in a time when many claim spirituality (2 Corinthians 11:14 “And no wonder, for Satan himself disguises himself as an angel of light.” , claim to be Christ followers. Jesus is the bright morning star.
