4 And when a great multitude had gathered, and they had come to Him from every city, He spoke by a parable:
5 “A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.
6 Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture.
7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it.
8 But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.” When He had said these things He cried, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
In Verse 5
5 “A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.
The Path or Wayside on which the seed falls represents the person’s heart which is harden.
Just like the seed can’t penetrate the hard patch of ground, the word of God cannot penetrate into the hearts of those who have harden themselves against it.
if people set themselves against receiving Go’d word the devil will take away the word from their hearts like birds devouring the seeds. the devil does this so that the person may not believe they can be saved.
6 Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture.
the ones that fell on the rock represents the person who initially receives the word joyfully but has no roots.
That person will believe for a while and fall away in times of testing. These believers lack the discipline of spending time with God and living in obedience to his word.
7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it.
the ones with thorns represents the person whose spiritual growth is choked with worries, riches and pleasures of the world. They hear the word but never go back to meditate on it and absorb it deep into their lives. As a result the person will produce no mature fruit.
If the devil can’t hinder you with difficulties, he will choke you with distractions. They have have not time for God’s Word so they do not mature in God.
8 But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.” When He had said these things He cried, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
The good ground represents those who heard the word with a honest and good heart. they held onto it while enduring and producing fruit in their lives.
This type of believer gladly receives God’s Word . This person embraces the word tightly and perseveres in obedience with it.
