teaching. The importance of teaching is emphasized throughout the Bible. Parents must teach their children what God has said and done (Deut. 4:9–10). The prophets and priests were expected to instruct the people (1 Sam. 2:23; 2 Chr. 17:7; Ezra 7:20; Ezek. 44:23). The psalmists often asked God to teach them his way and his word (Ps. 25:4–5; 86:11; 119:12, 66, 108). Jesus was viewed preeminently as a teacher (Matt. 4:23; 17:24; 22:16; 26:18; see rabbi). In the Christian church, teaching plays a fundamental role (Acts 4:2; 5:42; 13:1; Rom. 12:7; 1 Cor. 12:28; Eph. 4:11; 2 Tim. 2:2; Jas. 3:1).[1]
