You’re In Good Hands
Luke 23:46
INTRODUCTION
Well, well, well, my brothers and sisters—what a joy it is to be here tonight to share a word from the Lord! In a world that feels increasingly unstable, uncertain, and even unfair, we need to be reminded of one unchanging truth: we are in good hands. Not just any hands, but the hands of Almighty God.
Our message tonight comes from Luke 23:46, where Jesus speaks His final words from the cross: “And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, ‘Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit!’ Having said this, He breathed His last.”
Now, let me tell you something—those words, spoken in the final breath of Jesus, are not words of defeat. No, my brother no my sister! They are a declaration of trust, surrender, and confidence in the love and faithfulness of the Father.
So tonight, let’s dig into what it means to truly place our lives, our fears, and our futures into God’s hands—just like Jesus did. Because when life gets tough—and it will—you need to know without a shadow of a doubt: You’re in good hands.
So, with the help of the Holy Spirit and the real preacher Jesus Christ I would like to leave these three lessons with us tonight to back that fact up and the first is this.
SURRENDER LIKE JESUS: TRUST IN THE FATHER’S CHARACTER
Jesus had been betrayed, beaten, nailed to a cross, and abandoned by most of His friends. And yet, in His darkest hour, He says, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.”
This was no casual statement. This was total surrender.
He didn’t say, “I give up.” He didn’t say, “I can’t take this anymore.” No—He said, “Father,” recognizing the relationship. Then He said, “Into Your hands,” recognizing the care and power of His Father.
My Saint Thomas Baptist family and friends we can do the same, because God’s hands are:
Strong: (Psalm 24:8) “Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.”
Gentle: (Isaiah 40:11) “He will protect His flock like a shepherd, He will gather the lambs in His arm, He will carry them in His bosom; He will gently and carefully lead those nursing their young.”
Faithful: (2 Thessalonians 3:3) “The Lord is faithful [to His covenant and promises] and will strengthen you [setting you on a firm foundation] and will protect and guard you from the evil one.”
So even in your toughest moment, you can surrender like Jesus, because your Father’s hands are not shaky. They are sure.
RELEASE WHAT’S TOO HEAVY TO CARRY
Let’s be real, friends. Life gets heavy. Sometimes we carry burdens we were never meant to carry. But when Jesus said, “I commit My spirit”, He was letting go of the pain, the pressure, and the outcome.
That’s a model for us. What do you need to release tonight?
Your fears?
Your health crisis?
Your family stress?
Your financial pressure?
(1 Peter 5:7) “Casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].”
My brothers and sisters, you don’t have to carry it all. God is inviting you to place it in His hands.
LIVE WITH CONFIDENCE: YOU’RE IN GOOD HANDS
Jesus didn’t die in fear. He died in confidence. That same confidence is available to you today.
When you know whose hands you’re in, you can rest.
You can say, “Into Your hands I commit my fear.”
“Into Your hands I commit my doubt.”
“Into Your hands I commit my future, my family, my finances, my purpose.”
Because here’s the truth:
(Psalm 138:8) “The Lord will accomplish that which concerns me; Your [unwavering] lovingkindness, O Lord, endures forever— Do not abandon the works of Your own hands.”
God knows what He’s doing with your life. His hands have never dropped anyone who trusts in Him—and He won’t start with you.
CONCLUSION
So, when you’re tired, broken, hurting, or even at your last breath—remember Jesus’ words: “Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit.”
It’s not just a phrase for the end of life—it’s a declaration for everyday living. So declare it boldly:
Into Your Hands I Commit My Doubt
Into Your Hands I Commit My Hurt
Into Your Hands I Commit My Health
Into Your Hands I Commit My Wealth
Into Your Hands I Commit My Worries
Into Your Hands I Commit My Spouse
Into Your Hands I Commit My Children
Into Your Hands I Commit My Sorrow
Into Your Hands I Commit My Joy
Into Your Hands I Commit My Hope
Father Into Your Hands I Commit My Life
So, my brothers and sisters, when you feel like you're at the end of your rope,
When you feel like you can't go on,
When you feel like you're facing something that is too big for you, remember this: You're in good hands!
You're in the hands of the One who created the heavens and the earth!
You’re in the hands of the One who parted the Red Sea!
You’re in the hands of the One who raised Jesus from the dead!
You're in the hands of the One who loves you more than you can ever know!
Take heart, take courage, and take that step of trust.
Because my Saint Thomas Baptist family and friends—You’re in Good Hands.
Amen.
