Good morning and Happy Easter to everyone! Thank you for tuning in.
One of the biggest fears that people have is death. They fear losing their loved ones and they fear losing their own life. A lot of the things we get anxious about in life are often situational, as-in it might happen. However with death, it’s bound to happen. Christians may be able to bypass it if they’re alive for the second coming of Christ. But besides that exception, physical death is something we cannot escape. We wonder how it will happen and when it will happen, but not if it will. The more you think about it the more anxious you will likely become. There’s a quote by Joe Lewis “Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.”
Now if you’re a believer, you probably try and think positively because you have hope of going to heaven, but the details of how everything unfolds still might tempt you to fear.
If you’re an unbeliever, you probably have a lot of different and confusing thoughts.
So how do we rest in peace knowing that death is approaching us closer, every passing second.
I don’t know about you, but whenever I have a challenge, I always like to look for guidance and put my trust in someone that has experience overcoming that specific challenge to clear up the details.
Now unfortunately you can’t consult someone about a dying experience, because they’re dead. There very experience of death takes them out of consideration.
But there was one man named Jesus, who lived and walked among us thousands of years ago, fully man and fully God at the same time. He was beaten and crucified on a cross. An innocent man dying a criminals death. On the third day he rose from the dead, conquering death itself. He is the one we can look to for hope, for salvation.
As some tremble at the thought of wondering how you might die, Jesus knew when, why, and how he was going to die. And it was not pleasant. He knew crucifixion was ahead for Him. And as he prayed he sweat drops of blood. The physical pain he had to go through was only part of the equation, he was also going to be taking on the sin of the world, bearing it all for us.
When Jesus walked the earth He was fully God and could have called down a legion of angels to save Him. Why would he bear the pain and suffer something he didn’t have to, when He knew it was coming?
All humans are born into sin because of the fall with Adam and Even. We deserve death, and not just a physical death, but spiritual death. We deserve to be cut off from God for eternity because of our sin.
But God wanted to restore our relationship with Him. So He sent His only Son to die for us.
Romans 6:23 NLT
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus died on the cross and bore our sins so that we could have the chance of the free gift of eternal life.
And many will say how can you be certain Jesus is God? The Bible is a collection of historical documents describing prophecies fulfilled and so many miracles Jesus did. In fact most were not even documented.
John 21:25 NLT
25 Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.
And to top it all off, he rose from the dead, which is what all believers celebrate today.
He did what no regular man could ever do. And he did it for you.
I didn’t think about this point until I heard it from someone else a few weeks ago, but when Jesus was on the cross, he was thinking of you. It may have happened thousands of years ago, but as God, He knew you. He saw you before you ever came into existence. He wants you to have life. That’s why Jesus moved forward with the plan to die on the cross. It was the only way to atone for our sins. Faith in Christ, who died for you and rose from the dead, means you don’t have to fear death. You can have victory over death because the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead will raise you up as well.
Romans 8:11 NLT
11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
And you will see all your loved ones who also have believed in Him and passed on.
A life with Christ is full of hope, joy, peace, and victory. He’s what our souls desire.
