There were once three men who were chosen by the Lord to become soldiers. These men had soldier tendencies from birth. They might have served in the military of the country in which they lived or they might not for one reason or another. Once they were chosen by God one soldier was afraid or as the KJV puts it “Fainthearted”, he went home. One went with the wrong military and attacked a man for setting people free and wanting to assure the place in eternity for any who would choose. One soldier was good and faithful enduring hardship and pleasing the righteous commander. Which one are you?

2 Timothy 2:4 “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”
Are you at war? Are you watching the proper enemy Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Are you following the correct chain of command? The Bible gives us one official chain of command 1 Corinthians 11:3 “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”
Deuteronomy 20:8 “And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren’s heart faint as well as his heart.” How will you feel if you don’t participate in the war as a soldier? What if you miss out on the mission due to fear? I have seen fear paralyze the bravest of men, I have seen the effects of regret after fear. I would try to miss the effects of fear if I am able.
Matthew 12:30 “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.” If you choose the wrong military and end up trapped by those circumstances then it will leave a path of destruction. It is an easy choice when the final condition of each soldier is compared.
2 Timothy 2:3 “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” The final soldier that I want to talk about is the one who endured. He was ridiculed, struggled, and was in pain for the commander who actually loved him
If I take my experience in the military and combine it with my Christian walk then I can apply things that I already know. I can apply the principal of my “Smart Book” and the first general order to combat things like lust and addiction.
