1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Introduction
Introduction
Our Lord Jesus was born into this world as a human. He was not superhuman in any way, he was born without sin, but he bore our sin.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
He was a man when he was born helpless in a manger. He was a man when he cried at the tomb of Lazarus, but He was more than a man when He cried “Lazarus come forth”. He was a man sleeping in the boat, but He was more than a man when He said “Peace Be Still”.
He lived and died in complete submission to His Father, but He never said “Thus Saith the Lord” He said “I say unto you”.
He was a man when He died on Calvary for a sacrifice, bleeding, the blood running out of Him like a mortal, spit hanging all over His beard.
He was a man disgraced, standing there hanging in shame, taking our place. He was a man when the pains got so great till He cried, “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?”
That was a man there, but when He rose up on Easter morning He proved He was more than a man. He was the God Man.
He had the Spirit of God in Him.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
He was born without sin, we were born shaped by sin.
In Romans 7 Paul is talking about his own humanity.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
In Romans 8 Paul goes on to say that we, though we are mortals, have been made free from the law of sin and death.
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
It will quicken your mortal bodies.
To quicken is to make alive. A mortal body is a body subject to death.
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
He has quickened our mortal bodies.
And if It dwells in your mortal bodies,” now watch, “It also quickens, brings to Life, makes it subject to the Word.” 65-0418M - "It Is The Rising Of The Sun"
If His Spirit dwells.
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
It was the quickening Spirit in the body of the Son that raised Him from the dead, It was the quickening Spirit in your body that brought you from death to life, and it will be that same quickening Spirit that changes your body.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Bro. Branham calls this the “quickening power”.
This power gives life to dead things.
20 And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
Elisha’s ministry had been a series of life-giving events, especially the story of the Shunammite woman and her son.
(Tell story)
32 And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.
33 He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the Lord.
34 And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
35 Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
When ol’ Elisha called on a case where there was the prophet, and there laid a dead baby, he walked up and down the floor. What was it? A man walking. But all at once he felt the anointing come on him, and he stretched hisself across the baby, and he sneezed seven times, and come to life. What was that? God in His people. 59-0419E - "Show Us The Father And It Will Satisfy Us"
The quickening power, which is the very life of God Himself, was in the prophet.
Elisha dies, and it takes about two years before a person becomes just bones.
His flesh is completely gone, but the quickening power was still in His body, even though it had gone back to the dust.
He was waiting on the resurrection.
A dead man was thrown on top of his bones, and he came back to life.
A man buried with him was quickened to life.
We are buried by baptism with Christ.
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
We have been raised with Him. There was quickening power in the body.
Now that same quickening power quickens these mortal bodies, and they are made subject to the Word.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Then, think of it, you are then not yourself, you are a new creature, or the Greek there means “a new creation.” You’ve been re-created again.
The power of God comes upon you, and you become created, a new creature; which brings the whole physical being, spiritual being and everything, in subject to the Word of God. Not no other way! 65-0425 - "God's Provided Place Of Worship"
13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Now after you’re in this Body, Romans 8:1 said, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, that walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” There is the place where there is no condemnation.
Whether you go to a Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian church, wherever it is; if you are in Christ, you are a new creature, and there is no condemnation in you, no where at all. That’s God’s meeting place. That’s where God meets the worshipper.
There is where you are accounted a new creature, for they’re dead to the things of the world. They’re alive in Him. The living Presence of God is with them, day by day. 65-0425 - "God's Provided Place Of Worship"
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Elisha was a type of the Bride.
That same quickening Power of God presented in both of these prophets. Look at their names, are almost the same, Elisha, Elijah. See the Bride and the Groom? One of them is Mr. Jesus; the other one is Mrs. Jesus.
Now, Elisha…Was taken up in the rapture, represents the Church, all right, Elijah; and Elisha rested until the resurrection. It’s just like a bird, needs two wings to balance hisself.
The Church was represented right there in those two prophets. “For we which are alive and remain to the coming of the Lord, shall not hinder them which are asleep; for the Trumpet of God shall sound,” both wings shall come together, and we’ll fly away, hallelujah, fly away. Cause, (what?) in the living, or dead, that quickening Power still lives. 65-0418M - "It Is The Rising Of The Sun"
If the quickening power is in my body, why do I still struggle with sin? Why do I get sick? Why do I need prayer?
Let me ask you this: Why didn’t the quickening power in Elisha raise his own bones from the grave?
The truth is it did, but not at that time.
Those bones were held back by the Word of God, until the appointed time.
When Jesus died there was a resurrection.
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
It just wasn’t time yet.
Elisha didn’t know when that would be, but until that day, the quickening power hovered over those bones.
Now, let me show you. I don’t care if you’re dead, or where you’re at, that quickening power never leaves. Years and years after his death, his meat had rotted away, the skin worms had eat it up.
But they were packing a dead man, one day, throwed him in on that bones, and there was so much quickening power there till the man come back to life again. Hallelujah! Raised him up from the dead, because that quickening power that was upon that saint of God, never left him, stayed right on those bones.
Oh, remember, we are flesh of His flesh, bone of His bones, if we are His Bride. Death won’t bother that quickening power at all. “Though the skin worms destroys this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.” 65-0410 - "The Easter Seal"
Remember, that dead man, that prophet, full of that quickening Power, laying in the grave and rotted away; there was so much quickening Power, till, they throwed a dead man on him, he come to life. He could still lay hands on the sick, couldn’t he?
And remember, we are flesh of His flesh, Jesus Christ. “We are flesh of His flesh, and bones of His bones.” Oh, there’s no way out of it. We’re going to rise, and that’s all. You’re going to rise, that’s all.
Easter means more than just a tradition. It is also now, for our bodies are quickened with Him and we’re sitting in Heavenly places.
And this body may rot in the sea; it may rot in the ground; there may not be a spoonful of ashes; but she is coming forth. For, the Spirit that raised up my Lord from the dead has quickened this mortal body.
It’s quickened your mortal body. And we are His beneficiaries of His resurrection, His policy of Eternal Life that I talk so much about, you know. No wonder He said, “Fear not.” He would know.
For as Paul said, “Death, where is your sting? Grave, where is your victory? I’m full of quickening Power. Thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Yes, sir! Quickening Power. 65-0418M - "It Is The Rising Of The Sun"
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
We have the down payment.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Illustrate: Gotcha day. Myles.
We must wait on our bodies to be changed, but we do not have to wait for our bodies to become subject to the Word!
But, look! When this body receives the Spirit of God, the immortal Life inside of you, it throws this body in subjection to God. Hallelujah! “He that’s born of God doth not commit sin; he cannot sin.”
Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus; they walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” There you are. See, that throws your body subject.
You don’t have to say, “Oh, if I could just quit drinking! If I could just…” Just get in Christ, and it’s all gone, see, see, because your body is subject to the Spirit. It’s no more subject to the things of the world; they’re dead.
They are dead; your sins are buried in baptism, and you are a new creation in Christ. And your body, becoming subject to the Spirit, try to live a right kind of life.
Like you women claiming you got Holy Ghost, and going out here and wearing shorts and things, how could you do it? How could the Spirit of God in you ever let you do such a thing as that? It just can’t be so. Certainly, it can’t be. He’s not a filthy spirit; He’s a holy Spirit.
And then when you become subject to that Spirit, it throws your whole being subject to that Spirit. And that Spirit is nothing in the world but this Seed Word made manifest, or quickened, hallelujah, made alive. And when the Bible said, “Don’t do this,” that body quickly turns to It. There is no question.
And what is it? It’s the earnest of the resurrection. This body will be raised up again, because it’s already started. It was once subject to sin, and mire and corruption, but now it’s got the earnest; it’s turned Heavenly. Now, that’s the earnest that you’re going in the Rapture. 65-0221E - "Who Is This Melchisedec?"
This is not your down payment on Him, this is His down payment on you.
Illustrate: Contract with conditions
His Spirit dwelling in you is a contract with no conditions. You are sealed unto the Day of Redemption. Eternal life is in you.
This life in you makes you a conduit of that life to others.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
This power enables you to fulfill the great commission.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
There are many ways to be healed.
Illustrate: Elisha sending his staff. Paul sending handkerchiefs and aprons. Gentiles and the Spoken Word.
In spite of this, laying hands on the sick will never cease.
When them disciples received quickening power upon them, on the Day of Pentecost, what did they do? They went out and laid hands on the sick, and they recovered.
Jesus said, in Mark 16, “It’ll continue on to the end of the world.” How long, to the apostles’ age? “Go ye into all the world, preach the Gospel to every creature. These signs will follow them that believe; if they lay their hands upon the sick, they shall recover.”
That’s the quickening power like was on Elisha’s bones. And the same quickening power is upon the saints that raised them up. If that same quickening power is in us, lay your hands on the sick, they shall recover. 65-0425 - "God's Provided Place Of Worship"
Lay your hands over on one another, brother to brother, sister to sister, husband to wife, while I read this next quote:
Your hands on the people has got quickening power in them, if you’ve been quickened. Have you come to Life? Has Christ become real to you? Has the power of God been manifested? Are you in that Church, God’s provided Church?
How are you in It, how do you know you’ve been quickened in It? Your whole thoughts, your whole being, is in Christ now. And Christ is in the midst of the people, proving Himself alive, proving that He is here at the days of Sodom.
With them hands of those people, that their lives have been changed from streetwalkers, from drunkards, from prostitutes on the street, to a genuine saints of God, quickened.
Their hands is laying upon you. They’re in the Church, by Holy Ghost baptism, the same power was upon Elijah’s bones. That same power is laying upon your shoulder, upon your hands, upon your heads, that same quickening power…
Can you believe Him now? Can you believe that them hands laid upon you are Godly hands, can you believe that Spirit that’s quickening us now, making us act crazy to the world, do you believe that’s His quickening power?
Do you believe you’re in His Church? Then, if you are, and believe that those hands that are laying on you are holy hands, commanded by God; then I command you, in the Name of Jesus Christ, to stand to your feet and accept your healing, everybody that’s been sick. 65-0425 - "God's Provided Place Of Worship"
Conclusion
Conclusion
While we are standing and the musicians are coming:
Is there sinners here that would like to come into that Body? Raise your hands, and say, “I have never come into It, I’ve never been filled with the Holy Ghost, but I certainly desire It this afternoon. Will you pray for me?” Raise your hands. Don’t be ashamed, you’re in His Presence.
