Connection: We are called to go and make disciples. Knowing the purpose of this command and the barriers we will face helps us become more effective.
Thesis: We proclaim Yahweh's words and deeds so that others can place their hope in Him. We continue to invest in them so they do not forget His works and trust in His saving power.
Message Focus: How do we help others place their hope in Yahweh (& ourselves)?
Scripture Introduction

Our Role Is to Proclaim

vv. 1-5
Psalm 78:4 “We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.”
Do you remember that thing I never told you
How cruel it is to hide something vital

Yahweh’s Deeds

Psalm 78:4 “We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.”
Praiseworthy actions

Yahweh’s Might

Psalm 78:4 “We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.”

Yahweh’s Wonders

Psalm 78:4 “We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.”
Astounding things; miraculous

Yahweh’s Words

Psalm 78:5 “He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children,”
For our learning
1 Corinthians 10:11 “Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.

The Purpose of Our Proclamation

vv. 6-7

So They Might Know

Psalm 78:6 “that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children,”
Explain to me something that you don’t know
They don't think Christianity is true. They're talked out of it. You know why they're talked out of it. Because they have never been talked into it. -Frank Turek

So They Don’t Forget

Psalm 78:7 “so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments;”
I want you to remember the thing you have forgotten
It is impossible to remember the thing you forgot? But someone else can remind you.

So They Will Trust

Psalm 78:7 “so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments;”
The ultimate purpose of sharing God's commands and works.

The Barriers to Adherence

vv. 8-37
Psalm 78:8 “and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.”
This is what we are trying to prevent

Forgetting His Works

Psalm 78:11 “They forgot his works and the wonders that he had shown them.”
Importance of communion
Read: In short bites
Recite: Reveals what you know and don’t know
Reflect: relate what God is communicating to you to your own experience or information you already know.

Uncertainty in His Saving Power

Psalm 78:22 “because they did not believe in God and did not trust his saving power.”
How God has delivered and cared for you
God’s victories.

Inconsistency in Reverence to His Lordship

Psalm 78:35–37 “They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God their redeemer. But they flattered him with their mouths; they lied to him with their tongues. Their heart was not steadfast toward him; they were not faithful to his covenant.”
