So we left off on Saul attempting to kill David and he escapes and Saul removed him from his presence and made him a commander of a thousand men and David was succesfull in all of his battles and Israel fell in love with David. Saul was afraid of David at this point.
Begin reading Verse 17, If you guys remember Saul had promised the man who killed Goliath one of his oldest daughter to marry, Now back in these times before marrying someones daughter you would have to pay someone a dowery which was a payment of some kind, and Saul tried to manipulate David in to excepting the offer and hoping that he would be killed.
Verse 18 , really reveals the heart of David and his humility at this time David had become very popular in Israel but he says who am I to become the Kings son in -law.
Imagine someone throwing 2 spears at you in attempt to kill you and then all of the sudden its all water under the bridge and he’s offering you a gift now? Ive even thought of how crazy it is that David went back after Saul trying to kill him once. Was it crazy? or radical obedience ?
I think about the wisdom and patience still required of David to remain calm in the midst of an enemy and to continue trusting God even though God had not revealed the entire story to him.
David could have used his favor of the Lord and the popularity of the people as a way to under take Saul but he didn’t.
This story is a prime example, when God has a plan for my life there is no man that can interfere with accomplishing not what I want but what my heavenly father wants. No matter what may happen God worked it out for David and gave him victory countless times in war why? Because when God has something he wants to accomplish hell take what the enemy meant for evil and turn it for good.
WE are going to go through trials, we are going to have bad days and we are to count it all joy because our faith is growing and being refined day by day.
