Génesis 18:1–3 RVR60

1 Después le apareció Jehová en el encinar de Mamre, estando él sentado a la puerta de su tienda en el calor del día. 2 Y alzó sus ojos y miró, y he aquí tres varones que estaban junto a él; y cuando los vio, salió corriendo de la puerta de su tienda a recibirlos, y se postró en tierra, 3 y dijo: Señor, si ahora he hallado gracia en tus ojos, te ruego que no pases de tu siervo.

1 The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. 2 Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. 3 He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by.

Propósito: A través del estudio de la vida de Abraham, aprender cómo crecer en la fe para usar la fe (para recibir las bendiciones de Dios).

Purpose: Through the study of Abraham's life, learn how to grow in faith to use faith (to receive God's blessings).

-Dios le cambió el nombre a Abram por Abraham, simbolizando la transformación que Dios estaba haciendo en él.

-God changed Abram's name to Abraham, symbolizing the transformation God was making in him.

-Dios hizo lo mismo con la esposa de Abraham, ya no se llamaría Sarai sino Sara; indicando que haría un milagro en ella y dejaría de ser estéril.

-God did the same with Abraham's wife; she would no longer be called Sarai, but Sarah, indicating that he would perform a miracle on her, and she would no longer be barren.

-God ratifies his promise to Abraham and makes a covenant with him, giving him the sign of circumcision.

-With this sign, Abraham now left behind his former social identity, and he and his descendants became part of the "people of God."

-We also said that for us, regarding salvation, the sign is not circumcision but baptism. "Baptism fulfilled the true meaning of circumcision: the putting off of the old nature and the experience of regeneration."

Quién le apareció a Abraham | Who appeared to Abraham

-En esta ocasión analizaremos un suceso en la relación de Abraham con Dios.

-On this occasion, we will analyze an event in Abraham's relationship with God.

-En primer lugar, Abraham estaba seguro de que era Dios quien le había aparecido:

-First, Abraham was certain that it was God who had appeared to him:

Aunque Abraham vio a “tres varones”, cuando habló se dirigió a “uno”: le dijo “Señor” (v. 3).

Although Abraham saw "three men," when he spoke, he addressed "one": he said, "Lord" (v. 3).

Según el verso 1 del capítulo 19, los otros dos eran ángeles.

According to verse 1 of chapter 19, the other two were angels.

10 Entonces uno de ellos dijo: —Yo volveré a verte dentro de un año, ¡y tu esposa, Sara, tendrá un hijo! Sara escuchaba la conversación desde la carpa. 11 Abraham y Sara eran muy ancianos en ese tiempo, y hacía mucho que Sara había pasado la edad de tener hijos. 12 Así que se rió en silencio dentro de sí misma, y dijo: «¿Cómo podría una mujer acabada como yo disfrutar semejante placer, sobre todo cuando mi señor —mi esposo— también es muy viejo?». 13 Entonces el Señor le dijo a Abraham: —¿Por qué se rió Sara y dijo: “¿Acaso puede una mujer vieja como yo tener un bebé?”? 14 ¿Existe algo demasiado difícil para el Señor? 10 Then one of them said, “I will return to you about this time next year, and your wife, Sarah, will have a son!” Sarah was listening to this conversation from the tent. 11 Abraham and Sarah were both very old by this time, and Sarah was long past the age of having children. 12 So she laughed silently to herself and said, “How could a worn-out woman like me enjoy such pleasure, especially when my master—my husband—is also so old?” 13 Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, ‘Can an old woman like me have a baby?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”

La actitud de Dios | God’s attitude

-La manera como Dios actúa frente a Abraham nos indica que realmente El tenía un alto concepto de Abraham.

-The way God acted toward Abraham shows us that He truly held Abraham in high regard.

Dios comparte sus planes con Abraham porque conocía el potencial de Abraham.

God shared His plans with Abraham because He knew Abraham's potential.

Génesis 18:17–19 NTV

17 «¿Ocultaré mis planes a Abraham? —dijo el Señor—. 18 Pues Abraham sin duda llegará a formar una nación grande y poderosa, y todas las naciones de la tierra serán bendecidas por medio de él. 19 Yo lo escogí a fin de que él ordene a sus hijos y a sus familias que se mantengan en el camino del Señor haciendo lo que es correcto y justo. Entonces yo haré por Abraham todo lo que he prometido».

17 “Should I hide my plan from Abraham?” the Lord asked. 18 “For Abraham will certainly become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him. 19 I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.”

-Pero este potencial no radicaba en la habilidad de Abraham, sino en la promesa de Dios. Si Abraham se mantenía en su fe, Dios haría que él se convirtiera en bendición.

-But this potential lay not in Abraham's ability, but in God's promise. If Abraham remained faithful, God would make him a blessing.

Gálatas 3:6–9 NTV

6 In the same way, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” 7 The real children of Abraham, then, are those who put their faith in God. 8 What’s more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would make the Gentiles right in his sight because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith.

-Nuestro potencial será realizado en la medida que mantengamos nuestra fe en el propósito y en las promesas de Dios.

-Our potential will be realized to the extent that we maintain our faith in God's purpose and promises.

Otro detalle es que Dios le permite a Abraham interceder por Sodoma y Gomorra, pero también le permite que le pida reconsiderar su decisión.

Another detail is that God allows Abraham to intercede for Sodom and Gomorrah, but also allows him to ask him to reconsider his decision.

-Esto no significa que podemos pretender que por nuestra solicitud Dios va a cambiar sus decisiones. Pero si podemos confiar en que El nos oye.

-This doesn't mean we can expect God to change his decisions because of our requests. But we can trust that He hears us.

-Digo esto por lo que dice el verso 33 dice que “Cuando el Señor terminó de hablar con Abraham, se fue de allí, y Abraham regresó a su carpa”.

-I say this because of what verse 33 says: "When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, he left there, and Abraham returned to his tent."

Dios ve en nosotros un gran potencial, no por nuestros méritos, sino por los propósitos que El tiene con nosotros.

God sees great potential in us, not because of our merits, but because of the purposes He has for us.
