1 Corinthians 15.......
1 Corinthians 15.......
I read this passage at Bro Jim Johnson’s funeral.....He spent the majority of his life preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it was very fitting! In all actuality it is the life of every believer!
Paul stated “I declared unto you the Gospel.....”
On different letters Paul says this about what he declared......…Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” ..........1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” ........
The Gospel.....The preaching of the cross.........The cross of Christ! Paul tells the church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” His crucifixion leads you to His burial and His burial leads you to His resurrection!
That verse changed my whole direction in how I preached......I don’t have to put on a show, I don’t have to look like anything, I don’t have to do anything, but be a herald of the Person and the Work of Jesus Christ!
In the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in His death on the cross and resurrection from the grave.....is the power of God unto salvation!
You want to be delivered, you must first then know what you are being delivered from! Knowing that is the essential for understanding the power of the work of Jesus Christ!
In our text Paul explains to us how the power is in the WHOLE/ENTIRE work of Jesus Christ.....
Without the resurrection, our lives are to be pitied the most!
Without the cross, the resurrection would have no power!
The resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is not a feature of Christianity, it is It’s essential truth!
It is the goal, objective, and purpose of the Life of Jesus Christ!
Easter Sunday is the interpretation of Good Friday.
Resurrection is the Divine interpretation of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross!
Resurrection is the divine vindication of the work of Jesus Christ on the cross!
Without the resurrection the cross means nothing. The cross then would have not been what atoned for our sins!
When God raised Jesus from the dead, He was affirming, validating, and vindicating the fact that Jesus had indeed borne our sins in His Own Body on the cross!
1 Peter 2:24 “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
It satisfied the justice of God with Jesus bearing our sins!
The resurrection then is everything! The cross would be just another death!
Many passages in Scripture points to the purpose of Jesus Christ, which was to do the will of His Father....John 6:40 “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” ..............This passage would be empty if there was no resurrection from the dead!
I would think it be prudent of us to look on down to the last few verses of 1 Corinthians 15:42-58........Sown in corruption, raised in incorruption.......
Right now we are of the earth and flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God.......Neither will corruption inherit what Heaven is all about....Nothing corrupted, defiled, which is what sin is......and we are truly stained with sin!
We must be changed and that is what the power of resurrection, it is truly what salvation is......1 John 3:2 “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” .......
Many folks try to explain this......It is rather difficult but simple if you do not get in the weeds......we do not know what we will be like, except for we will be like Jesus is, what is that?????........Resurrected from the dead, cleansed from sin, perfect before our Father God!
So, when you here these verses......1 Timothy 1:15 “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”
John 1:29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
1 Peter 1:18–19 “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”
Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Colossians 2:13–14 “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;”
When you read and hear the declaration of Jesus dying for your sins, it should immediately bring your mind to salvation which means Jesus is not still dead, but alive and raised from the dead and at the Right Hand of The Father!
For us! Not because He needed anything but sin must be dealt with, eternally, because no sin can be in the presence of God!
That is where the resurrection is salvation........If we were to appear before the Holy God in sin we would be dead eternally, the 2nd death as Scripture declares!
It is not a choice of God, it is the reality of God.....flesh and blood cannot enter into His presence and live......that is what the resurrection of Christ is for us!
We are changed,.....Philippians 3:21 “Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”
A resurrected body, made for the presence of God, only through Jesus Christ! We will be like Him!
Without corruption, not because we have done anything, but it is because Jesus bore our sins, He became a curse for us and died, raised to life in a glorified body!
Let’s go to and read of the majesty of God and Christ on His day.........John 19.......
Preparation day......Preparing the sacrifices for the Passover!
Matthew 27:45–46 “Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
Matthew 27:50–51 “Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;”
