Seeing Jesus Clearly

Main Text: Revelation 1:12–18 “Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” (NKJV)

Strong Enriched Introduction:

Many know of Jesus, but few truly know Him. Some see Him as a baby in a manger, others as a crucified man on a cross. But He is more than a Sunday school story, more than a religious figure. In Revelation 1, John—who once laid his head on Jesus’ chest—saw the risen, glorified Jesus and fell at His feet as dead. This wasn't the gentle Rabbi from Galilee. This was the King of glory, clothed in fire, radiating majesty.
We are living in a generation that desperately needs to see Jesus as He really is—not culturally defined, not denominationally filtered, but biblically revealed. Your perception of Jesus determines your response to Him. You can't follow who you don’t truly see.

1. See Him as the Risen King (Revelation 1:17–18)

“I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore.”
Key Thought: We serve a living King, not a memory or a monument.
Scriptures:
Philippians 2:9–11 “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Romans 1:4 “and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.”
Acts 2:32–36 “This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. “For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” ’ “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.””
Illustration: A man visited a religious shrine in Asia and said, “Our prophet is buried here.” Another man visited the tomb of Muhammad and said, “This is where he rests.” But in Jerusalem, the angel said, “He is not here; He is risen!”
Application: See Jesus as more than a crucified Savior. He is the King who conquered death, and because He lives, you can live also.

2. See Him as the All-Consuming Fire (Hebrews 12:29)

“For our God is a consuming fire.”
Key Thought: Jesus doesn’t want to warm your heart—He wants to ignite your soul.
Scriptures:
Revelation 1:14 “His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire;” (eyes like flames of fire)
Malachi 3:2–3 ““But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire And like launderers’ soap. He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, And purge them as gold and silver, That they may offer to the Lord An offering in righteousness.”
Luke 3:16 “John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
Illustration: During the Welsh Revival, a reporter asked, “What’s the secret of this revival?” The preacher pointed to his chest and said, “God set me on fire, and people came to watch me burn.”
Application: When you see Jesus as holy fire, you stop playing church and start living consecrated. He burns away compromise and lights revival in your spirit.

3. See Him as the Great Shepherd (John 10:11)

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”
Key Thought: The Shepherd is not distant—He is present, guiding and guarding.
Scriptures:
Psalm 23 “A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.”
Hebrews 13:20 “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,”
Isaiah 40:11 “He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young.”
Illustration: A child lost in the woods heard wolves and cried out. His father, a shepherd, came running with a staff in hand. The child said, “I knew you'd come—I heard your voice before I saw your face.”
Application: In a world of confusion, Jesus leads us. See Him not just as powerful, but personal—a Shepherd who knows your name.

4. See Him as the Righteous Judge (2 Timothy 4:1)

“The Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead...”
Key Thought: Jesus is not just merciful—He is just.
Scriptures:
John 5:22 “For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,”
Acts 17:31 “because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.””
Revelation 19:11 “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.”
Illustration: Imagine a courtroom where the judge is also your defense attorney—but He cannot be bribed. He offers mercy now, but one day He will rule in righteousness.
Application: When you see Him as Judge, it sobers you. It drives repentance, reverence, and a desire to live uprightly.

5. See Him as the Lover of Your Soul (Song of Songs 2:4)

“He brought me to the banqueting house, and His banner over me was love.”
Key Thought: Jesus isn’t just a King—He is a Bridegroom passionately in love with His people.
Scriptures:
John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Ephesians 5:25–27 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.”
Illustration: A missionary once told of a tribe who had never heard of Jesus. When he explained Christ’s sacrifice, a woman began weeping, saying, “Tell me His name—I must love the One who first loved me.”
Application: When you see His love rightly, it awakens passion, worship, and surrender.

6. See Him as the Intercessor (Hebrews 7:25)

“He always lives to make intercession for them.”
Key Thought: Jesus is praying for you—right now.
Scriptures:
Romans 8:34 “Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”
Luke 22:31–32 “And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.””
1 John 2:1 “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
Illustration: A young pastor once wanted to quit ministry. That night, in a dream, he saw Jesus praying for him. He woke up in tears and said, “If He's praying for me, I can keep going.”
Application: See Jesus not only as the One who saved you, but the One sustaining you through constant prayer and advocacy.

7. See Him as the Coming King (Revelation 22:12)

“And behold, I am coming quickly...”
Key Thought: The Jesus who ascended is coming back—with power and glory.
Scriptures:
Acts 1:11 “who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.””
Matthew 24:30 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”
Revelation 19:16 “And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS”
Illustration: During WWII, General MacArthur said, “I shall return.” Years later, he did. Jesus made a greater promise—and He will not delay.
Application: When you see Him as the soon-coming King, you live prepared. You walk holy. You evangelize urgently.

Practical Conclusion:

When you see Jesus as He really is, you won’t settle for religion, ritual, or routine. You will hunger for His presence, burn with His fire, live under His Lordship, and wait with expectation.

Closing Prayer:

“Lord Jesus, open the eyes of our hearts to see You in all Your glory. Let us behold You not as man imagines, but as You truly are—alive, holy, loving, reigning, and returning. Burn away every false image. Ignite truth in our spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Strong, Spirit-Filled Altar Call:

Friend, do you truly see Him? Have you surrendered to the Jesus who walks among the lampstands? The One with eyes like fire and a voice like many waters is calling you. If you’re dry, distant, or drifting, He wants to reveal Himself afresh. Run to this altar—not to receive a religion, but to meet the Risen One. He is not hidden. He is waiting for you to open your eyes and say, “I see You, Lord—and I will follow You all the days of my life.”
