John 6:22-40

INTRODUCTION
Good morning church! If we have no had the chance to meet my name is Thomas I am the Student Pastor here.
BEGIN WITH THE END: Jesus is one of the only Kings who give instead of takes. Kings throughout history are all about taking for themselves. Jesus is not a King that takes but a King that gives. He doesn’t give us what we want. He gives us what we need. He gives us Himself as the Bread of Life.
STORY: Time when I stole my moms money to get Ice Cream from the Ice Cream Truck.
When I was 10 I asked mom for money for ice cream while she was cooking dinner. She said no.
Then I went to my dad and said “can you get me some money for ice cream, mom said so.”
He grabbed the money but right before he gave it to me he called out for my mom and asked her.
Obviously plan A didn’t work so I did what any reasonable 10 year old would do. I waited until my dad left the room and then I stole the money out of my moms purse. I took a $50 bill.
I bought SO MUCH ICE CREAM. This was almost 20 years ago. Cookie Ice Cream sandwiches sold for $1.50 back then. Then is when America was great! Bring that back!
I snuck up to my room with enough Ice Cream to feed 5 families and I devoured all of it.
Then my mom called me down for dinner. Which I did not eat and later on I got sick and my mom found the wrappers because I hide the wrappers under my bed like a normal 10 year old. Then I got my butt beat.
My mom could have given me what I wanted but it wouldn’t have done anything for me other than for fill my carvings. Instead she was offering something that I actually needed. A healthy meal that would give me nutrition, energy, and good sleep.
I share this story with you because this is John 6. There is a group of people that want something from Jesus but they don’t understand that Jesus is not there to for fill their wants. He is there to for fill their need. So if you would please open your Bibles to John 6, we are going to read 22-40.

John 6:22–40 ESV
22 On the next day the crowd that remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. 23 Other boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. 24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and went to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. 25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” 28 Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” 30 So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” 35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

CONCLUSION
END WITH THE BEGINNING: Jesus is one of the only Kings who gives instead of takes. Kings throughout history are all about taking for themselves. Jesus is not a King that takes but a King that gives. He doesn’t give us what we want. He gives us what we need. He gives us Himself as the Bread of Life.
Jesus is one of the only Kings who gives instead of takes. Throughout history, kings and rulers have been known for taking — taking land, power, glory, and resources to serve themselves. But Jesus is a different kind of King. He does not come to take; He comes to give. And He doesn’t just give us what we want — He gives us what we truly need. He offers us forgiveness when we deserve judgment, hope when we feel lost, and life when we were dead in our sins. Most importantly, He gives us Himself. Jesus is the Bread of Life, the only one who can satisfy the deep hunger of our souls. While earthly kings build their kingdoms by demanding from others, Jesus builds His Kingdom by laying down His life for us. He is the King who gives abundantly, sacrificially, and eternally.
