The Mercy of God
The Mercy of God
19 The thought of my suffering and homelessness
is bitter beyond words.
20 I will never forget this awful time,
as I grieve over my loss.
21 Yet I still dare to hope
when I remember this:
22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
His mercies never cease.
23 Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.
24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in him!”
Understanding the mercy of God:
(Hebrew) Favor is shown in compassion
(Hebrew) Love that is shown out of pity
(Greek) Pity, compassion
However, in Lamentations 3:22 the word for mercy is the Hebrew rahamim a word which means feeling of love; loving sensation. It’s what Joseph felt when he saw his brothers again in Genesis 43:30. It’s what one scholar says is what is felt among family members— very tender affection, specially love, natural affection towards relatives

So, when Jeremiah is writing about his condition and the mercy that God gives daily, he is speaking of the compassion and familial love that is so common between us and those we love. And it is out of this comes every good thing that God gives us. The question is why does God care to grant us these things?
Psalm 8:3–4 “When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?*”
Principle: When God sees us, He does not only see the marred and impaired, sinful version of ourselves. He sees through his mercy lens. He is able to see the side of us that many have forgotten—that side that was worth something.
It is likened to a parent who has a wayward child. That child, though he may be overcome by the pains of sin, there is still a memory of what was. And rather than looking upon that wayward child in the state that they are currently in, we still see the child that was born to us—the child that brings us so much joy, because they are a reflection of the best things in us.
