Luke 24:32 NASB 2020
32 They said to one another, “Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”
How are you responding to the fact that Jesus lives? Not everyone cares, not everyone believes, not everyone is excited. Even though the word is out that He LIVES! It is amazing, even now we can forget the power of the Christ. He promised that noone can take my life but I lay it down and take it up again.
John 10:18 NASB 2020
18 No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it back. This commandment I received from My Father.”
1 Corinthians 15:3–6 NASB 2020
3 For I handed down to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;
The power of His words, the power He displayed during HIS earthly ministry was a disappointment for many. Because their is a sad reality, if we don’t see Jesus the way we think HE should appear to us, HIS words meant nothing. Here we find a situation in our text that we have two of his disciples who were unable to discern the savior with them, the word because of their personal despair, and their slow belief.
Luke 24:13–32 NASB 2020
13 And behold, on that very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia from Jerusalem. 14 And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place. 15 While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him. 17 And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they came to a stop, looking sad.18 One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You possibly the only one living near Jerusalem who does not know about the things that happened here in these days?” 19 And He said to them, “What sort of things?” And they said to Him, “Those about Jesus the Nazarene, who proved to be a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,20 and how the chief priests and our rulers handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 But also some women among us left us bewildered. When they were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive. 24 And so some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.” 25 And then He said to them, “You foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to come into His glory?” 27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the Prophets, He explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures. 28 And they approached the village where they were going, and He gave the impression that He was going farther. 29 And so they strongly urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. 30 And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them. 31 And then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32 They said to one another, “Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”

The Despair of the of Peter

The disciples were walking away from an empty grave and with great disappointment and ignorance.
The grief was a multi-layered sorrow.
They had a report of the Angels to the women (Mary Magdalene, Joanna, And Mary the mother of James
They also had not experienced seeing Jesus personally so the validity of their argument has them perplexed.
Even today they are many views regarding the view of resurrection
Some believe if you are good in life you will be rewarded with new life at a future resurrection (No mention of a relationship with Christ)
Some believe in a general resurrection of all who ever lived and face judgement.
Others believe in reincarnation or a cycle of rebirth.
Some believe in resurrection of the soul only
Other symbolic resurrection.
Can you image Peter, walking with the Lord, being taught by Christ and being told I must die, while Peter couldn’t understand as to why? Now, his Savior was crucified and he hasn’t seen him alive.
Jesus, approached Peter and John and began walking with him them; But, their eye were kept from recognizing Him. Can you imagine this?
Psalm 42:11 NASB 2020
11 Why are you in despair, my soul? And why are you restless within me? Wait for God, for I will again praise Him For the help of His presence, my God.
Isaiah 59:10 NASB 2020
10 We grope for the wall like people who are blind, We grope like those who have no eyes. We stumble at midday as in the twilight; Among those who are healthy we are like the dead

The Dialogue of Disbelief vs 17-24
