Amazing Grace!
Titus 2:11–14 NKJV
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
How sweet the sound.
Grace is a sweet sound because...
It teaches us to deny ungodliness.
Titus 2:12a “12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness.”
Unrighteousness will not inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:9–11 NKJV
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
It teaches us to deny worldly lust.
Titus 2:12b “12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts.”
We are not to love the world.
1 John 2:15–17 NKJV
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
We are not to be conformed to this world.
Romans 12:2 NKJV
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
It teaches us to live soberly.
Titus 2:12c “12 teaching us that,… we should live soberly.”
If we are not sober we can be lead astray or devoured by the devil.
1 Peter 5:8 NKJV
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
It teaches us to live righteously.
Titus 2:12 “12 teaching us that,... we should live... righteously.”
We must pursue righteousness.
1 Timothy 6:11 NKJV
11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
It teaches us to live godly.
Titus 2:12 “12 teaching us that,… we should live… godly in the present age.”
Godliness is profitable for all things.
1 Timothy 4:8 NKJV
8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
It teaches us to look for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
Titus 2:13 “13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,”
Abraham waited for the city whose builder and maker is God.
Hebrews 11:10 NKJV
10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
We should be eagerly waiting for Christ to come because when he comes Christians will have their citizenship in heaven.
Philippians 3:20–21 NKJV
20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
That saved a wretch like me.
Ephesians 2:8–10 NKJV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Paul said that he was the chief of sinners.
1 Timothy 1:15 NKJV
15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
Paul said that it was grace that allowed him to be who God desire him to be.
1 Corinthians 15:9–10 NKJV
9 For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
