God Loves You

Intro; Tonight we come to the fourteenth doctrinal study in our Christian Life Series by Porter Barrington. The next seven messages will be on the Doctrine of God’s Plan of Salvation.
As we look at God’s plan of salvation we need to remember that its just that; God’s plan and not man’s. There is no other plan available to save our soul and make one a child of God.
12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
And God’s way is in a person, and that person is God’s Son, Jesus Christ.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
God’s salvation is a threefold cord that cannot be broken;
First, Christ came to earth to save us from the penalty of sin by being the sacrifice for our sin on Calvary’s cross.
26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
Second, HIs resurrection the third day saves us from the power of sin which is death.
24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
55 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Third, He is coming again to this earth to save us from the presence of sin.
28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
So let’s look at the first part of God’s Plan of Salvation, and it starts with “God Loves You!”
Text; John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Prayer
1. God So Loved; 16a
1. God So Loved; 16a
It is a fact that God loves you not just by the statement that is made but by His actions backing up that statement.
So- to great extent, to extreme, denotes the size of something
17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—
19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
What is the width, length, depth and height of “God So Loved?”
2. Love Without Bounds; 16b
2. Love Without Bounds; 16b
World- His creation, made in His image and likeness
God’s love knows no bounds. It is not limited to race, status, culture, geographical area or past sins. God’s love is for all mankind in every generation.
13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.
17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,
3. Sacrificial Love; 16c
3. Sacrificial Love; 16c
“He gave His only Son”- Jesus Christ was made that which God hates; SIN, that we might become what God loves; RIGHTEOUSNESS!
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
There is truly no way while we are here on this earth to understand the magnitude of this sacrificial love. Even the best the scripture can reveal to us doesn’t quite satisfy the full hunger of this truth.
The Sacrifice of Jesus;
3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.
17 And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha,
18 where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.
The Benefit of His Sacrifice to the Believer;
22 “For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord, “So shall your descendants and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.
24 “And they shall go forth and look Upon the corpses of the men Who have transgressed against Me. For their worm does not die, And their fire is not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”
23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’
25 But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.
Realization of this Sacrificial Love;
8 Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.”
11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands,
12 saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”
I believe we will finally understand the sacrificial love of Christ when we are worshiping Him before His throne, spared from the wrath of God that we will watch take place upon the ungodly of this earth!
4. Eternal Love; 16d
4. Eternal Love; 16d
This eternal love covers the fear of death through sin when one believes in faith.
This love has always existed for us!
8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Before the foundation of the world means that there has never been a time in eternity that God’s love has not been upon us! That scripture says that “Christ was the appointed sacrifice for our sin before we were ever created!”
Why would God even create man knowing before hand that man would sin and Christ would have to be the only sacrifice to appease God’s wrath? LOVE
Love [agape’] love of need/Grace; receiving something we do not deserve
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
Close;
The children’s song “Jesus Loves Me” was originally written as a poem in 1860 by Anna Bartlett Warner to comfort a dying boy and help him understand that God knew what was going on in his life and that God loves him.
Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but He is strong.
Jesus loves me when I’m good, when I do the things I should;
Jesus loves me when I’m bad, though it makes Him very sad.
Jesus loves me loves me still, though I’m very weak and ill;
That I might from sin be free, bled and died upon a tree.
Jesus loves me He who died, heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin, let His little child come in.
Jesus loves me He will stay, close beside me all the way;
Thou hast bled and died for me, I will henceforth live for Thee.
Jesus loves the children dear, children far away and near;
They are safe when in His care, everyday and everywhere.
Jesus take this heart of mine, make it pure and wholly Thine;
Thou has bled and died for me, I will henceforth live for thee.
In a world filled with strife and struggle, trials and tribulations, people need to know that God Loves You and He proved it by giving His Son Jesus!
Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so!
God’s plan of Salvation is rooted in God’s Love for You!
