Pilgrims in the House of God Psalm 127-

It has been just an amazing time in the Psalms - what a wonderful insight to the truths of of how God used these men to record a history filled with the Worship and Love of God. A reminder that the Songs of Pilgrimage - Psalms 120–134 Various explanations have been given to the title “Song of Degrees.” Some think these fifteen psalms were sung on the fifteen steps leading to the temple. Others think the reference is musical, and signifies that the notes rose by degrees in succession. Still others link these songs with the degrees or steps which the shadow went back on the sundial of Ahaz (2 Kgs 20:8–11). The view most widely accepted is that these psalms were sung by the Jews when they went up, three times a year, to the feasts in Jerusalem.
Love from God is not empty promises. Its legitimate holiness that lines up with the 10 commandments per the ultimate salesman of Grace, Paul. NLT - Romans 13:8–10 “ Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law. 9 For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.” The same applies to loving God, Mark 12:30 “ And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’” Its not just emo jesus lovers. Its worship, its having one God, not blaspheming, etc. Turn to:
Psalm 127:title–5 “ A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon. 1 Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep.
All is vanity eh? v2 reminds us of Isaiah and trusting in the Word of God to have peace. (Isaiah 26:3)
our worries and anxieties often spring from this - Philippians 4:6–7 “ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. 5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.”
No wonder they would talk about anxiety then kids lol. Kids if taught right and loved well, become like weapons against aging, as they can care for us as we age.
A well trained family can also protect one-another and truly show love for each other.
Sum: 127 observes first, you need God and God blesses fellowship (family being prime). A God fearing man, does his best to obey God.
Psalm 128:title–6 “ A Song of Ascents. 1 Blessed is every one who fears the Lord, Who walks in His ways.
Someone that “fears” God, lives like it.
It really is freeing to walk in His will.
2 When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. 3 Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine In the very heart of your house, Your children like olive plants All around your table. 4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the Lord.
What if I don’t have immediate family/husband/wife. You have the Church. We are fulfilled in Christ (God) first then the rest bring the gravy.
A man who fears Lord is blessed because He walks in way of the Lord, not because gets everything He wants.
5 The Lord bless you out of Zion, And may you see the good of Jerusalem All the days of your life. 6 Yes, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!”
God exists. God had a seat, a tabernacle or temple he dwelt in. Still does (point chest). Not just your spirit man, but all that is you - 1 Corinthians 6:19 “ Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?”
in that temple dwelling we have fellowship with each other as joined dwelling. So immediate family :)
Psalm 129:title–8 “ A Song of Ascents. 1 “Many a time they have afflicted me from my youth,” Let Israel now say— 2 “Many a time they have afflicted me from my youth; Yet they have not prevailed against me. 3 The plowers plowed on my back; They made their furrows long.”
Israel was abused first by pagans, then by Israel. They ignored God then were flung into captivity. By Pagan nations (reaped what sowed) then to restore His worship, Israel “returned” but wouldnt be like it was until Messiah comes.
all israel needs to be saying this.
my back looks like someone was digging trenches in it i was beaten so bad.
4 The Lord is righteous; He has cut in pieces the cords of the wicked. 5 Let all those who hate Zion Be put to shame and turned back. 6 Let them be as the grass on the housetops, Which withers before it grows up,
God cut the whips. Chain breaker.
The grass on top always dies because its not true soil. The same is of those who don’t really worship God.
If the grass is dead, its useless, like the enemies of God.
7 With which the reaper does not fill his hand, Nor he who binds sheaves, his arms. 8 Neither let those who pass by them say, “The blessing of the Lord be upon you; We bless you in the name of the Lord!””
No one is jealous of these creeps. No one wants them. And will let them rot and not seek them.
no one wants to bless them because they are evil/abusive.
Psalm 130:title–8 “ A Song of Ascents. 1 Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; 2 Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications.
It all just hurts. And in my lowest point, I cray to God. himself. Some say this was during Nehemiah.
3 If You, Lord (Yah shortened form), should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? 4 But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared. 5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. 6 My soul waits for the Lord More than those who watch (sentry/guard each time) for the morning— Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.
Third watch for sentry is exhausting. You cant wait for the sunrise/morning where you are relieved. Where you can rest and here, we should look for Yah even more!
7 O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption (overflowing redemption). 8 And He shall redeem Israel From all his iniquities.”
Since He is God, he surely shall (through Jesus) redeem Israel and the world.
I include us because we are included elsewhere. But specifically this is a note about Israel.
Psalm 131:title–3 “ A Song of Ascents. Of David. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, Nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I concern myself with great matters, Nor with things too profound for me. 2 Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, Like a weaned child with his mother; Like a weaned child is my soul within me. 3 O Israel, hope in the Lord From this time forth and forever.”
No narcissism here. Authentic concern only in Yah, only in what He knows.
When we focus on God, we see ourselves as we truly are, we have all we need in Him, as we did with our mother as a child. And was complete.
Our hope is in Him. And Him alone. And David calls for all Israel to do the same. As he always has. We are content in Jesus because He is more than enough.
Jesus is more than enough for all of us. He is our all and everything. What do we need that he cant give?
