A Holy Spirit Church

Kathryn Kuhlman, the great healing evangelist in the 60’s and 70’s, was sharing about a person that was more real than you or I.
she often said…
“He’s my closest, most personal, most intimate, most beloved friend.”
she said with great clarity,
“He’s more real than anything in this world!”
“He is the wonderful Holy Spirit”
as I read those words I thought,
I want what Kathryn Kuhlman had. I wanted it with every fiber of my being.
I hungered for what she was talking about—
a dynamic relationship with the Holy Spirit
and so I said …
“Holy Spirit. “I don’t know you like that…. not as my closest friend….
And then, like a child I asked, “Can I meet you? Can I really meet you?”
The second I said that — I knew He was present with me in the room.
The Holy Spirit became real.
He became my friend.
He became my companion, my counselor.
He became my guide… my Helper!
Paul wrote...
1 Corinthians 2:12–13 NLT
12 And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. 13 When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.
What does a Holy Spirit Church look like?
What do Holy Spirit people look like?
If We want to be a Holy Spirit congregation, then we need to explore a little bit of what the Holy Spirit does and what makes us a Holy Spirit people.
Big Idea:
By embracing the Holy Spirit, we can live transformed lives marked by power, love, and victory over sin.
our goal is to develop a intimate relationship with Holy Spirit
to come into a daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit
============
so let me ask you…
1. Has the Holy Spirit been a distant third person of the Trinity to you? What must you do to bring Him into your life?
2. Are people filled with the Holy Spirit somehow different? How would you recognize them?
3. Have you ever witnessed a healing, or other miracle, attributed to the Holy Spirit?
4. What is the mission of the Holy Spirit among us?
“Can I Really Know You?”
if you are ready to begin a dynamic deep personal relationship with the Holy Spirit that surpasses anything you ever dreamed possible,
you are in the right place….
Romans 8:14–15 NKJV
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
=========
Are you ready to meet the Holy Spirit intimately and personally?
Do you want to hear His voice?
Are you prepared to know Him as a person?
it happens when you invite the Holy Spirit to be your personal friend.
To be your constant guide.
To take you by the hand and lead you “into all truth.”
What He will uncover and reveal to you in Scripture will make your study of the Bible come alive.

Who is the Holy Spirit?

From the beginning to the end of the Bible, the Holy Spirit makes His appearance over and over again speaking, equipping, empowering, moving ,breathing, directing, helping after all he’s called in John 14 — our helper
He shows up in the second verse of Genesis 1
Genesis 1:1–2 NKJV
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
right there He is — The Spirit of God
He is part of trinity
Genesis 1:26 NKJV
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;…
The Holy Spirit is God!! He is the third person of the Trinity
We see the Holy Spirit acting in the Old Testament and in the New Testament from the very beginning of creation until the very end of creation.
The Holy Spirit is alive and active.
the Trinity — Father — Son — Holy Spirit
Let me illustrate it this way.
If I asked you, “Please turn on the light,” three forces would be involved.
First, I would be the one who gave the command.
Second, you would be the one who walks to the switch and flips it.
In other words, you are the performer of the command.
But finally, who brings on the light? — It is not me, and it is not you.
It is the power—the electricity—that produces light.
Now a major change took place in the way the Holy Spirit worked in the Earth after the Ascension of Jesus.
Before — The Holy Spirit worked in the Earth, in prophets and kings and priests and then only temporarily
you see that so evident in the life of Samson, it says often it says of him : “and the Spirit of the Lord came on him and he….” (for 20 years)
Judges 14:6 NKJV
6 And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he …..
Judges 14:19 NKJV
19 Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily, and he ….
Judges 15:14 NKJV
14 When he came to Lehi, the Philistines came shouting against him. Then the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him; and the ropes …..
But 10 days after the ascension of Jesus, the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost and
it was not a “here today and gone tomorrow” situation like with Samson.
He came to take up permanent residence in the hearts of believers everywhere.
He was going to live in you and me!!
and He wasn’t going to ever leave us!
your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit today
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 NKJV
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Jesus foretold the coming of Holy Spirit in the book of John 7 and John 14
John 7:37–39 NKJV
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
here we see the promise of the Holy Spirit as a living wellspring within every believer out of whom would flow rivers!
The fullness of the Holy Spirit is for personal refreshment and power
He enables us to share life and hope with others, making our lives impactful witnesses to the world.
and then a few months later Jesus begins His discourse on the Holy Spirit
In…
John 14:16–17 NKJV
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
that phrase
another Helper —allos parakletos
paráklētos; means — to comfort, encourage or exhort. referring to an aid of any kind. It is used of a legal advisor, pleader, proxy, or advocate, one who comes forward in behalf of and as the representative of another.
Christ designates the Holy Spirit as Paraclete, and calls Him állos, another, which means another of equal quality.
Therefore, the Holy Spirit is designated by Jesus Christ as equal with Himself, and God
This new Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, was to witness concerning Jesus Christ and to glorify Him.
The Holy Spirit is called a Paraclete because He undertakes Christ’s office in the world while Christ is not in the world as the God–Man in bodily form.
In addition, the Holy Spirit is also called the Paraclete because He acts as Christ’s substitute on earth.
He is the Comforter: one called in, one called to the side of another.
The purpose is to help in any way possible.
think about these pictures…
(1) There is the picture of a friend called in to help a person who is troubled or distressed or confused.
(2) There is the picture of a commander called in to help a discouraged and dispirited army.
(3) There is the picture of a lawyer, an advocate, called in to help a defendant who needs his case pleaded.
No one word can adequately translate paracletos.
The word that probably comes closest is simply Helper.
and that is who Hr is —— our Helper!
================
Luke 11:13 NKJV
13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
The Holy Spirit abides forever with the believer. His presence continues and never ends.
He never withdraws His presence.
The Holy Spirit “dwells with” the believer: giving assurance, looking after, caring, guiding, and teaching.
The Holy Spirit is in the believer: communing, fellowshipping, sharing, and conforming the believer to the image of Christ.
Now, More Than Ever, We Need the Holy Spirit’s Fresh Anointing each day!
the Holy Spirit is involed in every area of your life …
1. If you want to know God, if you want to have a relationship with Him, you cannot do it without the Holy Spirit
In Ephesians 5:18, we are told to “be filled with the Spirit.”That’s not a suggestion; it’s a commandment!
Ephesians 5:18 NKJV
18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,
In fact, the Holy Spirit
Romans 8:16 NKJV
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
That measure of “knowing” requires a daily anointing of the Holy Spirit.
2. If we really want to understand the kingdom of God and how it operates, we must know the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said, “the kingdom of God is within you”
Luke 17:21 NKJV
21 nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”
Paul the apostle taught that the kingdom of God is…
Romans 14:17 NKJV
17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
God operates differently from man.
As kingdom Christians, we are called to operate under a new set of thoughts, standards, and choices.
Only the Holy Spirit’s fresh anointing can help us understand this spiritual dimension that is hidden from the world.
1 Corinthians 2:9–12 NKJV
9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
3. If we want to know the truth and live out the truth, it’s in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus talked about the Comforter who will “teach you all things ”
John 14:26 NKJV
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
Scripture also tells us that “the Spirit is truth ”
1 John 5:6 NKJV
6 This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.
and that the Holy Spirit “will guide you into all truth”
John 16:13 NKJV
13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
Falling into deception is possible without the Holy Spirit’s constant teaching.
The best and smartest of believers, even those who know the Bible from cover to cover, can be deceived if that person’s daily relationship with the Holy Spirit grows cold.

4. If we want to stay free from sin, we need the Holy Spirit.

The Word of God declares that the Holy Spirit keeps us “free from the law of sin and death”
Romans 8:2 NKJV
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
When we do not have a daily relationship with the Spirit of God we open ourselves up to weakness and falling into the sins of the past.
Sin should not be allowed to have any power over believers, yet when we who attempt to live the Christian life on our own are destined for failure.
Perhaps you can think of someone who once loved Jesus, who sang all the praise songs, yet now they are out in the world doing the same things they once begged God to take away from them.
We must never shun the Holy Spirit’s anointing and protection.
We must seek the daily direction of the Holy Spirit, allowing the anointing of the Holy Spirit to touch us afresh each day so that we can stay free from the power of sin.
5. If we want to pray with power and authority, it is in the Holy Spirit
According to Romans 8:26 the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us.
Romans 8:26 NKJV
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
and in
Jude 20 NKJV
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
We pray in the Holy Spirit because we often don’t know what to pray for, and He is faithful to bring our needs before God’s throne.
The Holy Spirit gives us insight during prayer that we would never understand without His leading.
I never cease to be amazed when we receive wonderful revelations during prayer for the needs of people, for inventions, songs, business ideas, and breakthroughs.
Too often we take this wonderful opportunity for granted.
We need His presence both to survive and succeed.
6. If we want to live a faithful life, we must have the Holy Spirit.
Faith isn’t something produced mentally. It’s from the heart.
Since it’s from the heart, it’s of the Spirit.
He is the Source of faith. Without Him we tend to use our own wits, senses, and imperfect plans—then we miss His promises.
According to 2 Corinthians 5:7, the witness of the Holy Spirit helps us “walk by faith, not by sight.”
2 Corinthians 5:5–7 NKJV
5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. 6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
7. If we want to live an unshakable, established, victorious Christian life, we have to include the Holy Spirit in every part, every day.
We must be “strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man” in order to be “rooted and grounded in love”
Ephesians 3:16–17 NKJV
16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
Anything less than a daily anointing of the Holy Spirit leads to weakness and imbalance. It doesn’t matter how busy you are, if you neglect time with the Holy Spirit there will be consequences.
You must constantly be seeking the Lord and never rely on yesterday’s experiences
Lamentations 3:22–25 NKJV
22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” 25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him.
The good news is — We don’t have to live without the Holy Spirit!
With a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit each day we can enjoy a possibility-filled life.
In fact, if I have learned anything, it is this:
We need the power of the Holy Spirit fresh and new every hour of every day.
God does not give us “leftovers.”
As God provided manna to feed and sustain the children of Israel in the wilderness, the Father offers us that precious filling and anointing of the Holy Spirit that comes afresh every day, empowering us to live an overcoming Christian life.
I am convinced that you cannot live today on what the Holy Spirit did for you yesterday .
Thank God for the past, for each miraculous step that brought you to where you are today. However, what happened last week, last month, or last year will not sustain you today.
Only claiming your inheritance of the Holy Spirit’s daily anointing will help you overcome challenges and achieve great things for God.
living in the fullness of the Holy Spirit is essential for every believer, the Spirit as not just a source of power, but a personal guide that leads to spiritual maturity and authentic Christian living.
Big Idea: The fullness of the Holy Spirit invites you into a dynamic relationship with God that infuses your daily life with purpose, joy, and transformative power, shaping you to be like Christ.
2 Corinthians 3:17–18 NKJV
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
"Living the Christian life isn't difficult; it's impossible." But God sent the Holy Spirit to live in our hearts and enable us to love Him and obey His commands.
Now we have looked a little bit at what a Holy Spirit church and people look like
so lets jump in — determine every day to start with the Holy Spirit
say…
not — Holy Spirit, this is what I have planned for today — but
Holy Spirit — what do You have planned for today?
it’s that simple
Stand
let’s pray that starting today ——
Holy Spirit — what do You have planned for today?
