A Measure of Faith
Call to Worship: Psalm 132:13-18
1. God promises here that Zion is his dwelling place. Revelation 21:3 proclaims that the
dwelling place of God will be with man. If we believe that God is omnipresent, what do we
make of references to his “dwelling place”?
2. How would you respond to someone who said that verse 15 is promising prosperity to the
faithful?
Lords Supper: 1 Corinthians 11:23–26
3. State three teachings about the Lord's supper that can be derived from these verses.
Sermon Scriptures: 1 Kings 17:8-16
God's Promises and Providence (Verses 8 & 10)
4. In what way is Elijah similar to Melchizedek?
5. In verse 9, God gives Elijah a command: 'Go to a pagan land, there a widow will care for
you”. Why would Elijah likely find this command perplexing?
6. Pastor Don emphasized that faith becomes valuable when it is tested. What tests of faith do
we see in verses 8 – 16?

Israelite, worshiped the true God?
10. Give another example of a non-Israelite that was clearly a believer.
11. The widow did not share out of her abundance. She gave away that which was needed care
for her family. State at least two other places in scripture where God gives submits believers
to extraordinarily difficult tests of their faith.
12. Pastor Don reviewed some of the titles of God in scripture that reveal his character. (For
example, Jehovah Jirah – God is provider.) If you have a favorite title for God, please share
it.
God's Miraculous Provision. (Verses 14 – 16)
13. Pastor Don challenged us to look to God's promises, not to circumstances.
1. What Biblical character met that challenge?
2. Share a story of someone you knew, or a first-person story, of meeting that challenge.
14. Why might God have only provided the widow with daily provision, instead of perhaps a
storehouse of food?
15. What Biblical perspectives help us overcome fear?
Prayer Points: Pray for:
God's provision.
Faithfulness in scarcity.
Guidance and direction.
A heart of obedience.
If you did pray and received any insights, please share your insights with the group.
