CASTING OUT DEMONS WAS RESERVED FOR JESUS
CASTING OUT DEMONS WAS RESERVED FOR JESUS
When Jesus cast out demons, He went beyond the precedents of the Old Testament. From the time of Moses onward, God's prophets had performed many miracles that foreshadowed the ministry of Jesus. They had healed the sick, raised the dead, made miraculous provision for multitudes and demonstrated God's power to control the forces of nature. But there is no record that any of them had ever cast out a demon. That was reserved for Jesus. It was a unique demonstration that the Kingdom of God had come upon the people of His day. - DEREK PRINCE, THEY SHALL EXPEL DEMONS -
Jesus is Lord over the demons - Today is an appointment - Territorial demons
1 Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. 2 And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, 4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. 7 And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.”
8 For He said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” 9 Then He asked him, “What is your name?”
And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” 10 Also he begged Him earnestly that He would not send them out of the country.
11 Now a large herd of swine was feeding there near the mountains. 12 So all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the swine, that we may enter them.” 13 And at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.
14 So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. 15 Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. 16 And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. 17 Then they began to plead with Him to depart from their region.
18 And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. 19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” 20 And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.
Legion: No matter the number of demons, Jesus can cast all the demons out at once
Today is an appointment: verse 6: When Jesus calls the demons to a meeting they have to come.
26 Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing.
Demons are spiritual enemies and it is the responsibility of each Christian to deal with them directly in spiritual warfare. - FRANK HAMMOND, PIGS IN THE PARLOR -
SPIRITUAL LAND - A HOUSE OR - GOD'S TERRITORY - THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
24 “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ 25 And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order. 26 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.” 27 And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” 28 But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
The unclean spirit says "I will return to my house from which I came.
For an unclean spirit, the human body is a house.
"Legion" was in the house: Around 6,000 guests (1 legion = 6,000 roman soldiers)
SPIRITUAL LAND - BUT WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES, HE CHANGES YOUR BODY INTO A TEMPLE1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
The Kingdom of Heaven is in you
A SPIRTUAL LAND
Our body now has a spiritual structure:
The Holy Spirit also plants trees in your life that now produce fruits: The Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22-25 - 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
A temple is a place where sacrifices are offered to God
Demons don’t attach themselves without some invitation
Demons don’t attach themselves without some invitation
Demons don't attach themselves without some invitation. These invitations are not always intentional or conscious, but they are always part of the equation.
I have often heard that one episode of uncontrolled rage or intense hatred can invite demonic activity. Violence can be an entry point especially murder.
There is a video circulating of an abortion doctor in front of his clinic; he is wearing scrubs and clearly seems to be manifesting a demon. He hisses and proclaims he has a darkened heart and loves

The Deliverance Process
The Deliverance Process
Just to bring all of these points together for the sake of simplicity, if you are confronted with a demonized person, here is what I suggest. These points are not rigid. You may not always need all of them. And you may change the order sometimes. But I think it is safe to say this is a good outline that will serve you well.
I. Take authority over the demon (or demons), and command it (or them) to be quiet in Jesus' name.
Yelling at the demon, pleading the blood of Jesus, and rebuking it will only make it more violent. You will get a reaction this way, but the goal is not to create a dramatic scene. The goal is to get rid of the demon. I have seen people have prolonged discussions with demons talking through their host. Those ministering will often get quite rattled and even become intimidated by these demons. I could tell some wild stories about this, but it is best just to emphasize that you do not want demons talking. They are liars, deceivers, and accusers. Instead tell the demon to shut up.
II. Tell the demon you want to talk to the person, and call the person to consciousness in Jesus' name.
Once you are talking to the demonized person (not the demon), ask him if he wants to be free. If he says yes, you can proceed. If he says no, there is nothing more you should do.
III. If the person tells you he wants to be free, share the gospel with him first.
This does not need to be a long, protracted sermon. The person needs to know his freedom can come only through Jesus Christ. Tell him how Jesus died on the cross for his sins and that by his accepting His sacrifice, every demonic claim will be cancelled. Make sure he understands he needs to surrender his entire life to Christ and follow Him from this moment on.
Also, tell him he will be required to completely forgive anyone who has wronged him--no exceptions.
It is possible that during this time the demons will start manifesting again. Just continue to take authority over them, tell them to be quiet in Jesus' name, call the demonized person forward, and continue. As long as he wants what you are doing, do not let the enemy stop it.
IV. Lead the person in a prayer of salvation.
Ask the person to repeat after you as you pray with him to surrender his life to Christ and confess Him as Lord. I would normally lead a simple prayer of faith that goes something like this:
Lord Jesus Christ, I am a sinner. Have mercy on me. Forgive my sins. Make me a child of God. I confess with my mouth what I believe in my heart-that Jesus Christ is Lord, that God raised Him from the dead. I put my trust in You and surrender my life to You. From this day forward I am Yours and You are mine. In the name of Jesus, amen.
V. Have the person specifically renounce any areas where he intentionally gave demons access.
You might not always be aware of these, but the Holy Spirit can give you insight. Also, it will often become apparent what you are dealing with. Finally, you can ask the person outright what doors he has opened- he may know. Many demonized people can point to something that seemed to start it all. C. J. problems began when his mother made him kill his dogs. The rage and hatred to which he gave himself seems to have been the catalyst. I did not know this at the time I ministered to him, but by the Spirit I knew that bitterness and unforgiveness were keys. It is important the person you are ministering to does this himself. You cannot renounce these on his behalf. It must be an act of the person's will.
VI. Have the person forgive anyone he was holding bitterness or anger against.
Because I sensed C. J's situation was tied to anger and bitterness, I asked him to write the names of the people he hated on a piece of paper and forgive them. This might not always be necessary, but forgiveness is always important.
VII. Take authority over every demonic spirit and command it to go in Jesus' name.
It is possible that there will be very little outward manifestation by this point. C. J. said that at this point he felt as if he were vomiting air. He described it as a wind coming out of his belly. I was not aware of that. In fact, to me the conclusion of that particular deliverance was pretty undramatic. But he was free--that's the point.
VIII. Lay your hands on the person, together with anyone else ministering with you, and pray for him to receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
This was the most dramatic and rewarding moment in C. J.s case.
He was filled with the Holy Spirit and immediately began speaking in tongues. After this experience there was no question that C. J. had been set free. He looked like a new person. His demeanor was totally different. He was able to communicate freely. He said that for the first time in more than twenty days he suddenly felt hungry. He described it as scales falling from his eyes. He said everything looked different after that experience!
IX. After a person has been delivered, it is important that he get discipled and stay accountable.
Remember, deliverance is the easy part. The person must be fully immersed in the Word of God, the church, worship, prayer, and com-munity. C. J. told me that he has had many temptations to go back to his old life in the nearly sixteen years since his deliverance. Following Jesus is not easy for anyone, especially someone who has carried such baggage. Walk with him, love him, and pray for him, and you will have fruit that remains.
QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION
What are some key things to remember about deliverance ministry?
What are some ways we can recognize demonic influence?
Why is discipleship so important after someone has been delivered?
Can a Christian be demonized?
What are some of the ways we can be affected by unbelief?
Is there a connection between epigenetics and generational curses? Explain.
