Introduction
Song by Twenty One Pilots “Stressed Out”
I wish I found some better sounds no one's ever heard I wish I had a better voice that sang some better words I wish I found some chords in an order that is new I wish I didn't have to rhyme every time I sang I was told when I get older, all my fears would shrink But now I'm insecure, and I care what people think Wish we could turn back time to the good old days When our mama sang us to sleep, but now we're stressed out We used to play pretend, give each other different names We would build a rocket ship, and then we'd fly it far away Used to dream of outer space, but now they're laughin' at our face Saying, "Wake up, you need to make money, " yeah
Have you ever thought these words
Wish you could turn back back time to the good ole days?
But all you hear now is wake up you need to make money
And now you’re stressed out
Tension
This is life for many of us
We find ourselves wishing for a different time
Where we felt something different, better?
I used to read my bible, pray, worship…etc
The mission of our lives… your life, has not changed
Matthew 28:18–20 “Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Truth
The story continues through those who never lose sight of the mission
John 20:30–31 “The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.”
Life - Purpose now, presence forever
Acts 2:1–4 “On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.”
Meeting together
Holy Spirit gave them this ability - a supernatural dose to accomplish the will of God
Who was in their presence?
See vs 5… devout jews from every nation
Acts 2:5–6 “At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.”
See vs 10… they heard their own language or dialect
Acts 2:7–12 “They were completely amazed. “How can this be?” they exclaimed. “These people are all from Galilee, and yet we hear them speaking in our own native languages! Here we are—Parthians, Medes, Elamites, people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, the province of Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the areas of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism), Cretans, and Arabs. And we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done!” They stood there amazed and perplexed. “What can this mean?” they asked each other.”
We see the Holy Spirit’s power in the presence of those who don’t believe
Application
Your story is most powerful in the presence of those who don’t believe
Why do you believe in Jesus?
Journal your reasons why
What has He done for you?
What has he forgiven?
Tell them…
You never know what hangs in the balance of your obedience
Psalm 145:4 “Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.”
Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Family trees could be impacted by your obedience
The truth is you don’t have to wish…
Step out in obedience and share your story this week
