Introduction
4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” 7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” 8 and, “A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.

Christ Didn’t Look To Man For His Identity
Christ Didn’t Look To Man For His Identity
4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—
We see here that Christ did not look to man for his identity. When they came against him he didnt back down and say okay I am who you say I am
We in the same way that Christ has set an example for us need to look for our identity in Christ not in what the people of this world say about us.
Christ Enables Us To Bring Spiritual Sacrifices
Christ Enables Us To Bring Spiritual Sacrifices
5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
The author here is using this analogy of the stones and how we as Christians are being built into the house of God’s kingdom.
But these sacrifices that he is talking about would mean nothing if they were not through Christ.
Only through putting out identity in Christ the solid rock can we bring sacrifices that are worth anything
Anything we do in this life if it is not done in Christ is not worth doing
Identity In Christ Will Never Put Us to Shame
Identity In Christ Will Never Put Us to Shame
6 For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”
When we look to the world around us for our identity it will always end in shame. The world will always say we are not good enough in some way or another.
But when we put our identity in Christ all of this changes. Christ says that we are not good enough but that we are enough through him.
The World Rejected The Cornerstone
The World Rejected The Cornerstone
7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” 8 and, “A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.
The World around Jesus rejected him but he became the cornerstone. Everything is built on Christ
In the same way when we look to Christ for our identity God can use us in ways that the world said weren’t possible
We need to listen to what Christ says about us rather than what we say about ourselves or what the world around us says about us.

The World Rejected The Cornerstone
Why do you think that it is important that Christ did not look to the people around him for approval but kept his identity in Christ/God?
Why is important that our spiritual sacrifices and in Christ identity and not in an identity that comes from this world?
Has there ever been a time in your life where your identity in things of this world brought you to shame?
Why is it important that we find our identity in Christ when the world is rejecting us?
How can God use us even when the world rejects us? Do you have an example of this?
