Life in Christ
Notes
Transcript
Last week we learned that Jesus is the creator of the world. We also learned that Jesus has supreme authority over the world as well. And we looked at how His sacrifice on the cross is the reason we are able to be saved.
Walking in Christ
Walking in Christ
What does it mean to “walk in” someone? Paul uses it here and tells us to walk in Christ. This can sound a little weird because we can’t physically walk in someone. We are able to walk in Christ. That is because Christ has the ability to fill us. When we are saved and get baptised we get the Holy Spirit. When we have the Holy Spirit we allow it to guide us and keep us in communion with Christ. That is what Paul is telling us here. Since we are saved we no longer need to walk around in pointless philosophy but we must walk in tune with the Holy Spirit which helps lead us to Christ.
Circumcised with Christ
Circumcised with Christ
When we are circumcised with Christ we have excess things cut out of our lives. The way we were slaves to sin is no longer true. We are set free and Christ has cut that slavery to sin out of our lives. When we accept Christ we are longer slaves to sin but we are free in Him and can live our lives for Him.
Baptized with Christ
Baptized with Christ
We are baptised with Christ. The act of baptism is symbolic to Christ's sacrifice and death for our sins. When we are put under the water we are going into the grave. We are dying to that old self. When we are raised we are raised as a new creation in Christ. This allows for us to live a life that is glorifying Christ. Like we talked about earlier as Christians we must live lives that are glorifying Him. Our baptism shows that we have died to our old sinful way and are new in Christ.
Live it Out
Live it Out
We see here in verse 14 that we no longer have guilt for our sins. Our sins have been forgiven by Christ and because of that we can truly live our lives for Him. Everything we do should be glorifying Christ. We should be eternally grateful for what He has done for us. Imagine what you would do for someone that pushed you out of the way of a bus and they got hit but didn’t die. Wouldn’t you do something for that person? You would try and get them a meal give them money. You would do whatever you could to help that person out. Isn’t it the same with Christ? He came down and died for us. He did not have to but He did. Shouldn’t we live our lives even more so for that person? We have to serve Christ because we love Him for what He did for us.
My challenge for all of you this week is to spend time in the word. Spend time reflecting on what you do in your day to day and see what you can change to try and live a life to glorify Christ even more so.
