What is your excuse?
What is your excuse?
Matthew 28:16–20 “Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
We talked about what the Gospel is.
We talked about why people would reject the gospel.
We talked about how to share the gospel.
So…
What is your excuse for not sharing the gospel?
I’m going to talk about the three main excuses I have heard, or I struggle with, when it comes to sharing the gospel.
I’m not good at it…
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
The Holy Spirit gives you power.
Exodus 4
Are you going to be like Moses? Doubting God’s power? Or are you going to be like the disciples?
2. I’m a kid in school. I can’t be like Moses and the Disciples and just get up and go on a missions trip. I don’t have opportunities to share the gospel.
“Go therefore and make disciples…”
Share the gospel with those God bring’s across your path.
go, proceed, travel; live, walk; die
A better translation is “As you go…”
I have friends say “I want to be a missionary.” But they aren’t sharing the gospel here. They like the IDEA of being a missionary instead of actually sharing the gospel.
The question isn’t “Do you have opportunities to share the gospel?” Rather “Do you have eyes to see?”
3. I don’t think it’s good news.
“And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.”
Some of you heard these messages and have come to the conclusion that this isn’t good news. You still doubt him. You doubt that he exists, that you need a savior, that he is better, what ever it is, you have doubts.
That’s okay.
What? Yes, it’s okay that you have doubts. But I just ask that you don’t stop there.
I want to challenge you, if you still doubt that this is good news. Read the book of John. Take your time, but read a little bit every day. One section (Not even a chapter) and see what God says about Jesus and about you.
