Q06 How Many Persons in the Godhead? A06 There are three persons in the Godhead, Father, Son and Spirit. These three are one God; same in essence, equal in power and glory (Matthew 28:19)

Let them answer these questions:

Last week we learned that there is only one true God - does anyone remember Q05?

So how can God be Jesus, and God is also the Father and God is also the Holy Spirit?

Have you heard in Scripture that God is Jesus, and God is the Father and God is also the Holy Spirit? How can this be?

How can there be three persons in the Godhead?

Let’s learn what this doesn’t mean:

First, this does not mean that God changes shapes or modes - One day the Son another day the Father and another day the Spirit like water being liquid, steam or ice depending on conditions (MODALISM)

Secondly, This does not mean that God is actually 3 different gods with separate realms or domains (TRI-THEISM)

Thirdly, this does not mean that God the Father created other gods called the Son and the Spirit (ARIANISM)

Fourthly, this does not mean that Father, Son and Spirit are - 1/3 of the total being called God (PARTIALISM)

Fifthly, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are somehow less than God the Father (SUBORDINATIONISM)

Sixthly, Jesus was simply a man that was adopted and abandoned during His earthly ministry and later given divinity (ADOPTIONISM)

Seventhly, God is simply everything and I am god and you are god

What does it mean?

God is three Persons, Father, Son and Spirit and these three are one God; same in essence, equal in power and glory

And yet the three Persons of the Godhead have different roles: Let me show you what I mean

Description of Work/Role

The Father sends the Son

John 8.29 ““And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him

The Son sends the Spirit

John 20.22 “And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

The Spirit empowers the Son and glorifies Him

Luke 4.1 “Now Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was being led around by the Spirit in the wilderness”

John 16.13-14 ““But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak from Himself, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. “He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.”

So why is this important? Why should this matter to you at all?

The same Spirit that empowered Jesus to do what His Father sent Him to do is the same Spirit that leads the believer

Isaiah 11:2-4 “The Spirit of Yahweh will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and might, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of Yahweh. And He will delight in the fear of Yahweh, And He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor render a decision by what His ears hear; But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with uprightness for the afflicted of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He will put the wicked to death.”

Romans 8:14 “For as many as are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

The unchanging good God that Scripture reveals is the One who is in power on the Throne and is working in your life now - did you know that He is speaking with you now through His Word. If you care about what He says and want to do it You are responding to the Word - this is SUPERNATURAL!!!! Praise God

John 16:8–11 ““And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.”

So what should we do with this information:

Ask to be filled with the Spirit of God to do His will

Luke 11:13 ““If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?””

Understand, that the God that is three persons has given us authority to bring about His kingdom

Matthew 28:19 ““Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,”
