God’s Word Transforming Our World

The fact you are here - in person or online - is proof that you believe God still speaks!
Did you know that there is a difference between hearing and listening? All married couples know this. Every parent knows this.
Hearing = the natural process by which our ears receive sound waves - sending the waves into our brain which then translates the sound waves into something meaningful.
Listening = intentionally working to comprehend the sounds you hear.
I hope last week I was able to convince you that God does speak. He hasn’t stopped.
If we as the people of God haven’t heard God, it isn’t because He is silent. The problem is on our end - working to comprehend the sounds.
Psalm 19:1 HCSB
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.
Hebrews 1:1–2 HCSB
Long ago God spoke to the fathers by the prophets at different times and in different ways. In these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son. God has appointed Him heir of all things and made the universe through Him.
Hebrews 4:12 HCSB
For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the ideas and thoughts of the heart.
Since we agree that God speaks, then
a). what is He saying?
b). am I hearing or listening?

What Is God Speaking?

The heavens are declaring the glory of God…in these last days He has spoken through His Son…His word is living and effective….
Is there one message? Are there multiple messages? Does He speak to specific situations or just in generalities?
From the first moments of creation through the very final moments of this world, there is one message God continues to speak.
We can hear His voice in the Garden -
Genesis 3:9 “So the Lord God called out to the man and said to him, “Where are you?””

Am I hearing or just listening
