John 21; Matt 24; Acts 1:8

Mrs Jackie/Friday class
Disciples returned to what they knew… Fishing. Jesus shows up, tells them to cast their nets on the other side and they caught 153 fish. They got to shore and had breakfast.

15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

Agape -

to have love for someone or something, based on sincere appreciation and high regard—‘to love, to regard with affection, loving concern, love

phileo

have love or affection for someone or something based on association.

Some say that we should not separate these two meanings as two different word. This seems likely given that Peter and Jesus were speaking the same language. But I do think it is telling since John wrote out these words and one has a high regard and the other is more of the love base off association or brotherly love.
Boske

to cause animals to eat, particularly pasturing animals—‘to feed, to cause to eat

an interesting phrase here to cause a animal to eat. To cause an animal to eat you have to put something good to eat in front of it. However, Jesus not talking about feeding animals, but presenting the word to people.
poimaine

to herd and tend flocks of sheep or goats—‘to shepherd, to take care of, to tend, to pasture

To take care or to shepherd the flock.
Do you Love me… Great commandment.
What has Peter been called to do?
What does it mean to Tend to or Feed the Sheep of Jesus?
Matthew 28:16-20

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Under whose Authority?
Purpose - Make Disciples
Location - to all nations
How do you make disciples?
John 13:31–35 “ 31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. 32 If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once. 33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” 36 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow afterward.” 37 Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.””
Old commandment versus new commandment.
Make disciples by loving people like Jesus.

1 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. 3 He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.

4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Luke wraps up the conversation with pointing out that he walked the Earth fo 40 days. At the end of that, Jesus tells them that they need to go back and stay in Jerusalem until they receive the Holy Spirit.

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” 9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
